In PPLP I believe it is advised to take the Magnesium alone at bedtime (loaned out my book at exactly the wrong time ). I've also been told that Calcium and Magnesium should be taken together to enhance the absorption of Calcium. Looking for guidance... Thanks.

Believe it or not, this topic follows on from the wine one (I've been busy, ok? ) When I spoke to 'my' chemist about that, you'll remember he suggested that any differences from the direct measurement of sugars, and the difference method calculation only indicated the error margin inherent in the latter method. This got me thinking (yes, me!!) If you take a common example, say onions, ND ...

I have been so busy this year, I haven't kept us near as much as I did previously. Have the Eades made any statements about how they view the glycemic load theory? Seems I recall they didn't think much of it. Do they pretty much feel that a carb is a carb is a carb? Same goes for Taubes, what is his position? Yes, I have their books but it's been awhile. I'm perusing them again now.

Hey I am relatively new to low carb dieting. I was slightily over weight , but have always lifted weights(for exercise). I came across Dr. Atkins books, and was very impressed. I started to follow Atkins diet plan, and continued to lift weights at the same time. The results(after two weeks were great) were very satisfying, and then I came across the book Protein Power. Protein Power was very...

Isn't this program based upon the Glycemic Index? Is this program a farce or does it do what it claims? Just curious.

I have run the numbers over and over. My min protein number is 133g per day. That seems awful high. Waist is 42, wrist 8 and activity factor is .7 (workout 3-5 days per week). Has anyone else found the calculation to be seemingly high ?

I had great success with PP lowering my cholesterol to healthy levels. My questions do NOT reflect on my results with PP in any way (I wanted to state that so there isn't any misconception about my posting the following information). http://www.wellnessresources.com/hea...nd_death_ri sk/ I have a few questions on this information. Would it be advisable under any circumstances for an...

One of the reasons why a low-carb diet helps lowering cholesterol levels to ' normal levels ' (not that it is not the 'normal' levels recommended by physicians) has to do with the action of insulin on the enzyme that controls the synthesis of cholesterol. For years there has been a discussion on what exactly is the mechanisms by which cholesterol synthesis is regulated. I wrote small piece...

The September issue of National Geographic has a brief article on the Overall Nutritional Quality Index (ONQI) that has been developed over the past several years by Yale University's Griffin Prevention Research Center. I visited the ONQI Web site to learn a bit more about this new Index. The concept is to evaluate the nutritional quality of various foods and provide a single number that ...

My diet is grain/legume/potato/sugar free (for the most part). Yesterday I ate some starchy foods at a birthday party (first time in 6 months) and within an hour or so my mouth began to hurt. I don't have any canker-type sores, but the entire lining is almost raw, continuing part way down into my throat. A low-carbing friend of mine believes this is a response to amylase production after a long ...
