The 224 cam with 114* lsa sounds alot like this Summit Racing cam. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-1104/ I, too, have struggled with the Gen 1/LS decision. The LS will make some impressive power and still have decent mileage. But, it's gonna take a bunch of money to do it too. None of the LS parts are cheap (at least in my world) and there are a lot of parts to change. Front accesories, head and cam, headers, harness and ECM, swap...

Brian, Thanks for the info! I did some snooping around on LS1tech.com for this problem, but didn't come up with anything. I am going to try and get some pics tonight and feel around to see if I can feel any grooves. I've got the motor out and the oil pan off so if I have to change them it won't be as bad, I just don't want to have to pull the crank because then I'll be tempted to stroke it to a 383!! Anyway, a concern...

lol no im not road racing it but I do off road with it and i range from 2200 to around 7800 rpms with a stock block with stock internals with over 320,000 miles on it and the worst thing that has happend was a blown out water pump gasket otherwise its been fine and I drive it everyday...when this motor comes out of my bronco its getting torn down and sent out to be magnafluxed and acid bathed, followed by a nice bore and then im stroking it to...

Out of curiousity why don't you put a longer crank in and turn it into a 383? My 383 makes just about 500 HP and is still very driveable.

No DBW in a 4th gen.
I see what you listed for 750-1500, but around 1000 seems average for all that now

I was wondering if anyone knew of a stand alone engine controller that

Want to see if this is possible, i have a 355 in my nova that has about 15,000 miles on it, i've looked inside of it and it is still as clean as can be. My goal is to build it to run on 93 octane, i want to run close to 11:1 compression and make 400 wheel horsepower. I will be using 1 3/4" hooker supercomp headers, I'm willing to get a set of pistons to bump the compression up, I want to use a ...

Tough Call, or is it. You can make 450 with the 350 but mileage and driveability may suffer and it will have thumpy idle, which isn't a bad thing. Heads and a roller cam will set you back close to 2K or more. So I would say drive the car as is and stock pile parts for however long it takes and put the LS in. You will have better drivability and mileage and should hit the 450hp mark with a little ...

Run it as is seems like the way to go for your budget.
He built it his way because he has a warranty to back up it seems.
The small amount of compression loss may be a good thing these days with the inconsistancy of fuel quality.

how thick is the material on the lip? One of the problems I could see if a machine shop milled it flat would be not enough material to make it all flat. Keep in mind the rest of the cover may not be flat either. By the time get one end all the way to the other end flat, you may run out of material.
Also, holding the valve cover may posses some problems with the cover not being very rigid. ...

What pump did you use? The Melling 54? As far as I know they all use the same shaft.

At that power level, you're right at about the normally accepted limit of that block.
Any girdles or hard block in it?
