my son OD'd once on heroin and it scared him off it and he turned instead to pills mixed with booze as did a lot of his friends, thinking it was safer. two of his friends have since died from that cocktail. I know you worry and I am so glad Zach is blessed to have you. we worry about my grandson's mom interfering in his life. we are going to court within two weeks still working on keeping her controlled and not able to just swoop in...

Hopefully this will be the first and last Christmas my son is locked up. I waited until the day after Christmas to shop for him and got some great deals. I wrapped them and took a picture to send to him. I also "adopted" a four year old boy from the Salvation Army and buying for him really lifted my spirits. His wish list was much smaller than most so I added a lot of special extras.

Thank you all for your love I caught each word sent and etched it on my heart. I really do love you all. The weatherman says it going to be freezing rain and up to a inch thick of ice where my son is so the visit might be delayed. Prayerfully I will be able to go. If not we will be able to talk on the phone. Merry Christmas to each of you! Diane

Welcome to PTO jnena. The PWCIP forum is a great place for support, encouragement and answers. I doubt I would have made it through the past few months without the great folks here. Be sure to check out the forums for Pennsylvania and also the one for Juveniles. My son that is currently incarcerated is 24 but I went through the juvenile detention system with his older brother some years ago. I am happy to say that he learned from his...

My son just came home after three years and it is amazing. A little bit of advise. Do not feed him rich foods their stomache can not handle it. He most likely will not eat alot, small meals are best. Milk, my son said the milk they get is like water and he drinks more milk now than he ever did. My son sits and thinks a lot, does not say much. Driving in a car seemed to be hard at first, not use to moving so fast. At first you will worry about...

I agree - telling him does not isolate him from the family but includes him in the family. My son always wanted to know what was going on good or bad - he said it made him feel connected. Check with the chaplain before hand and find out what they are willing/able to do regarding notification. Good luck with your surgery.

Don't feel bad or let it eat you up inside. Heck, who knows it might do him some good to see that you aren't doing his time for him by cutting everything and everyone else off. I think sometimes these kids (or at least mine) forget that I am not just his mom but have thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires just like every other person in the world. Good luck hun and if he refuses your visit it won't be long before he is begging...

It's ok to grieve, I grieve over my 17 year old and 23 year old everyday, some days more than most. Even though you don't cry that day I'm sure you are crying inside. I can be crying in the inside and smiling on the outside. I'll just be glad when it's not a fake smile anymore. The good news is that we will have less laugh lines! lol.

Hi, mom. It feels like you've been punched in the stomach, and can't breathe, and the crying just won't stop. So many of us have been there. Tell him. I would tell him and ask him to pray for you and to know that GOD will be with you. I never kept anything from my son and he said that is the way he wanted it. It will not hurt him to worry about you for a change, it may make him see the worry you have been going though with him and how that feels. I am sorry if that sounds mean, it is not meant to be. I just think that putting the ...

It is very frustrating to have to deal with medical. I don't blame you for feeling bad for him. My son almost died of a bad tooth in the county jail a few years ago. i was out of town so I missed the whole thing. My son was a great story teller and by the time the whole thing was over he made it into a funny story but really it was such an unnecessary catastrophe not to mention a huge waste of ...

i think i know how you feel...the whole bittersweet thing, and the guilt part. i know your son is getting transferred but what prison is he in? i am in nc too and have read up on alot of the prisons and was saddened to find many dont allow christmas visits. maybe its a min or med custody thing. i so pray that if and when my son goes he can hold it together to get processed to a minimum.

Nicksmother, I know how you feel. My son spent a Christmas in at age 19 and also a birthday. And he will do the same again this year. Luckily we can go visit him on the 26th (we don't want him to miss the excellent Christmas dinner, apparently fmc rochester has very good food), so we decided to go the day after. His 23rd birthday is the 27th, so it is a good segue between the holiday and ...

I can relate to your situation. My son never asks for more than he possibly needs now that he is in prison. He knows our financial situation has changed dramatically, and he is blessed to get what we do give him. His excuse for selling drugs was always that he had to support himself somehow. I am sure you know these addicts can be "master manipulators," and my son is very good at this. There is ...
