It sounds like you're talking about the triple or quad screen blood test usually paired with an u/s to check the nuchal fold measurements on baby? The blood test is known for false positives-- or rather being positive when nothing is wrong. It's not really a test FOR disorders as much as a test of something that can be present when baby has a problem-- but it's present in many normal babies too. I'm not sure much on the...

Hmm, good to know. Thanks.? We've just been so confused about this and the way both doctors talked to us (they rotate you around the office since any one of them could deliver your baby) and I felt they were rather cryptic.? I'm wondering if it's a legal issue and they can't, technically, tell us what to do or what?!? ? ?

Testing
Published (2009-12-09 11:28:00)
Hi Sarah. I chose to have the non-invasive stuff done, but not the invasive ones, which means I got the blood tests for the quad screen like Angie said along with ultrasound, but not amnio or CVS. Termination under any circumstances would never be an option for us either. When I made the decision to do the tests I thought that my results would be nothing less than absolutely normal. However, my blood work did show an elevated amount of a...

Testing

I think this is definitely an individual decision, but we opted to not do any testing. When I was pg with DS my OB actually recommended against the testing for me. She told me because I was young and there was no history in mine or my DH's family of genetic disorders, I was at an extremely low risk and that the risk of m/c from an amnio was higher than my risk of having a child with downs. I liked that she was really honest with me. She...

Measuring Small?
Published (2009-12-10 17:41:00)
Angie I read this the other day and I just thought of a story I could share...I have a friend at church who was consistently measuring small throughout the last trimester; they monitored her and decided to induce two weeks early (the reasoning was that the baby would grow better outside the womb) and little Ava was born at about 5 1/2 lbs, perfectly healthy and didn't even stay in the hospital as long as my almost 8 lb baby did. I'm...

Measuring Small?

Hey Angie!? Sorry I didn't see this until now.? I don't know a lot about babies measuring small, but I do know that the whole measuring thing is a very non-exact science!? Very small variences in how the individual dr.s, nurses, tech's, etc.? do the measuring can make a big difference in "days".? I'm sure it's nothing to worry about!? I'll be praying for your peace of mind, and that if there are any...

Hi Angie. First, congrats on passing your glucose test!!! Of course I'm a FTM, and my baby doesn't seem to be small for her age, but I can relate to the close monitoring as I'm now going to the OB twice a week from here on out for growth check and non-stress tests. I don't really have any input on the small for age issue, but I did want to tell you that to me it's comforting to know that ...

I think the idea is to pick a time baby is usually active, rest then and count kicks. You should feel 10 within 2 hours and usually if they are active it's much sooner lol. If you DON'T feel enough kicks in that time then take a break, maybe eat something, and try again in a few hours. I think the main thing is make sure you feel some movement semi-regularly and there isn't a huge decrease or...

I had that too and the odd thing is that in Norway where I'm from it is sooo common and all women know what it is (and it has a simple and familiar name that everyone knows). It usually gets better after birth (not immediately but after a month for sure) but if you aren't careful there can be permanent damage done. Be especially careful doing movements like getting out of the car: keep your ...

Congrats Kimberly, welcome to team blue! Glad that the baby is healthy and eveyrthing looks great! Good luck in the name search. We had a heck of a time trying to name Gabe because we both were so sure it was a girl that we never really discussed boy names.
