Escape to a farmhouse in France? I can see the appeal! But, if things go bad I think I'd rather be somewhere familiar - with friends, family and good neighbours ... safety in numbers.

My Mum lives in Merthyr at the moment, and my sister lives with her. If TSHTF badly they will both, either, have to take their chances or come and live with us. We're all set up here and there's no way that we're moving. If your parents places aren't up to scratch, and you've got a place which is, it makes sense for them to come to you. If they won't move when told the consequences, I would say that it's up...

I voted: I am making fairly minimal changes (stocking up on tinned food, investing in gold, etc.), but don't have the time/inclination/space/money to do anything more substantial. Plus I'd rather not be fixed into one location by too many preparations as it could be hard to leave that much work behind if I had to move in hurry (floods? riots etc) _________________ One watt at a time http://reukpower.blogspot.com/

Anti-inflation purchases?

Thinking a bit more on this. If, and it's a big if, you think that global warming has gone past the reversible point, then a caravan site on high ground would be a good investment. Remember that if TSHTF permission for caravans might be relaxed. _________________

Compare and contrast that video about the cruise ship with these . This planet is dysfunctional.

It can get hairy out there innit Course if you weren't in a race you'd of reefed your sails, hauled them in close letting the boat come head to wind and rode out the storm But you wouldn't of made any progress and you'd of lost the race so you tried to run with it and broke the topping lift

Anti-inflation purchases?

Perhaps just bring forward some purchases that you want or will find useful. With Inflation the price goes up, with the deflation the price comes down... but expect with depression level deflation, for cash to be scarce... So regardless of whether the price falls or not, you still can not afford it. If you need a new computer, there is nothing wrong with buying one now before the VAT rate goes up in Jan. Yes the specs do improve, but your...

At the moment I am stocking up on building equipment such as scaffolding, tools, guttering, plumbing etc. Not all of these are being bought, some are picked up on travels and in skips. I think building insurance will become very expensive in the coming years so the ability to do major repairs yourself will be a bonus. I agree with what you say about IT equipment 3 laptops in 2 years, what...

http://www.aleutia.com/products How about one of these ? Only uses about 12W. Put linux on it and job done Never heard of XP but that might work too This can come with SSD drive or boot from a flash USB drive. This can also run straight off 12V so solar powered is a possibility. I want one of these actually

Rent. Interest rates have to go up, quantitative easing has to end. When these things happen, which will probably be next year, house prices will start falling and they will eventually go back down below the low point of 12 months ago. IMO. ETA: it will also be much easier to get a mortgage when the banks themselves actually believe we've hit the bottom of the property slump. At ...
