Its so irritating when other people have opinions! A bit of anecdotal from newsnight. They have a political pollster called Frank Luntz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Luntz, one of his tricks is to use ordinary language analysis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinary_language_philosophy to get a picture of what people are actually thinking in terms of voting behavior. Now when he is finished he can get a relatively accurate picture of how...

80bn is chicken feed in a global context , the markets have been topping out the last couple of months so it normally only takes a random news event to crystalize a change in sentiment.

We'll probably hand it all over to the Argentines. If not, it's a long way to transport to the UK, so we'll probably sell it at a huge discount to ... the usual suspects. It ain't gonna happen. Too many ordinary joes feel their 'rights' are being curtailed. A lot of vociferous folk will drum up opposition to any measure.
And you're right WatD: if simple, easy-to-do things like driving slower or fewer flights are next-to-impossible (and wouldn't make a great difference in the grand scheme of things any way) never mind straightforward systems like CO2 ...

Saw this as a demo on coast. The good thing about it is it works on river estuaries (we have lots of those) and, like hydro and tidal, should be capable of predictable, baseload power.
Costs once developed should be as good as hydro.

I've been trying to avoid it for years: not easy and sometimes you wonder if any alternative is worse (for instance, all packaging must react in some way with some foods). I've found that most 'ethical' companies avoid it and will communicate honestly with you over the issue, so it often helps to simply support smaller businesses which would be more in touch with reality.

Good good, especially as I believe the Tories are also supportive.
Unfortunately, as we all know, any Manifesto pledge should carry a Health Warning as standard........
Short-haul flying is one of the issues that high-speed rail is meant to address, so I'd be looking for the proposals to include a link to Heathrow.

Now that is a lot of anaerobic digestion feedstock!!!!
Most calculations put the contribution from sewage sludge, farm wastes and food wastes at no more than a fre percent of gas supply. They must be "qualifying" their stats. somehow.

So they're encouraging us to consume by rewarding disposing of stuff we don't want in a way that helps to buy more stuff. What's green about that?
I suppose if they're giving vouchers rather than cash it's not so bad. Anyone who has nothing to recycle won't be buying stuff they can use the vouchers for anyway. But why should the people who recycle little because they're not consuming much ...
