I think that as the independent party forms itself it will tend to be a little more conservative and that the "Republican Party" will be attempting to get into their tent. If they play it right the independents will "check" the Republicans at the door (flap) and only allow in those that will help fight corruption from BOTH sides.

In Australia you vote for your local candidates. Whichever party gets the most votes is the party in charge. Then they vote for their leader. No charisma needed. Their leader could be as boring as a rock. Thing is they have to perform. Also all a politicians meetings are posted so people know what they are doing. And guess what?
