Backround investigations
Published (2009-11-10 11:58:00)
Just for the heck of it I want to know what you people think. I just had a call doing a backround check on a poetential new hire. They asked the same standard checks that we have all either done or heard. My question is, is there anyone stupid enough to list a reference that is going to say bad stuff about them. I find this process to be a cover your tail, old formality. Just curious if you have ever called a reference and had some say I would...

I was under the impression that background investigators would ask the good references that you give for additional names of anyone else that may know you, and so on. So by the end, they would be calling people you never imagined and some that would potentially give you a bad reference.

Another option is to take the "Police Officer 1 & 2" and the State Patrol civil service exams. Many smaller agencies piggy back onto those lists to look for viable candidates instead of going to all the expense and difficulty of posting for applications and writing their own tests.

Thanks Guam. That is a good idea. I will get some resumes out, and definitely keep a list of where I apply and what I hear back from them. Thanks again. Lee

hey guys i have a quick question for all of those who live in or near Madison: Do you happen to know if there is a big population of Bosnians, Serbians or Croatians in or around the area? I will be coming to test in January and was just curious because I am fluent in those languages. Thanks.

Eau Claire Salary

No one adds "assumed" overtime into salary figures from HR. There really is no way to include "assumed" overtime as in this line of work it is VERY fluid. I've had pay periods with as many as 50+ hours and have had many with 0 hours. For an hourly rate, you can call or email HR or figure that *most* LE jobs work roughly 1980 hours per year (based on a 6/3 schedule).

Ya, got all those... thanks. I was looking for an hourly rate, and trying to determine if they were adding assumed overtime into that figure listed on their web site.

Call around. Or simply look them up and send in a resume. You might hear from them, you might not... but it's always worth a shot. With a small department, and there are many in the state, you might have to start with a part-time spot.
But, keep checking Wilenet... and get on top of sending out resumes. In addition, keep a list of when and where you applied and what the response was. It ...

Jason, Say I'm interested in becoming an officer. Do I need to have a minimum of 60 college credits to be an officer for Madison? I know alot of departments in WI require a college degree. Is any degree needed or do you go by there training?
Thanks, JT

I know. It took me about 15 seconds research. Have you tried Google? Maybe EauClaire's HR website? Or maybe even WILENET?

Last I heard, everyone that is on the list now is the final batch.
Rumor has it, starting in January they won't be putting people through the academy anymore. Everyone will need 60 credits and certification like most other departments.
*shrug*
I turned in my application last February and have not heard a thing.

Patrol63, unfortunetly what you did was not correct. I agree that it should be that way, but it isn't the reality of Wisconsin anymore. In Wisconsin you have to write the person exactly what their DL status says. Even though they never had a DL, they are no longer OWL because the state issued them a DL# and suspended it. If they didn't suspend it, you'd be good.

Most of the part-time positions are posted on WILENET as well. You just have to keep checking.
