Ironic you ask. I just obtained warrants on a mother Sunday for refusing to allow her 15 year old son back in the house. She is required to provide for the child until his 18th birthday. Can't do it. She CAN report him every time he runs away. She CAN file a report with juvenile services and ask for assistance with an undisciplined youth and other status offenses (status offense meaning wrong because of the age, but nothing an adult could...

Heck yeah!! That's really all our academy was. We watched every season of cops and critiqued the officers response. Then we watched The Jeffersons and Different Strokes to learn about other minority relations and Jerry Springer to learn how to deal with domestics and custody disputes. We watched Monk to learn how to deal with people with mental illness and House to learn how to deal with brilliant but cranky medical professionals with...

college degrees = paid more?
Published (2009-11-26 22:17:00)
Taylor13, we get a pay differential for degrees. It's something like 750 a year for a bachelors (only one) and 1,000 for a masters. Of course, the city has negotiated on-line courses free of charge with a state university so that any employee can get their degree online if they so choose.

No it does not.
A lot will say that in fact they sometimes show the opposite of what an officer should have done in that situation.
After some years on the job you wont want to watch that stuff. And will avoid people that watch it while you are around to avoid the dumb questions.

Two wrongs don't make a right. If you walked over the top of a car, you could be charged with criminal damage to property. While the owner of the car would be getting a parking ticket, you would likely get arrested for a criminal offense.

Sure, you could wear your HazMat suit all the time, but wouldn't that seem a bit ridiculous?

Depends on the agency. Most agencies I know of don't offer extra pay for a
college degree, however it will definitely help you get hired. There are a
couple agencies I know of that offer incentive pay for associate's or
bachelor's degrees and some departments are even starting to require at
least an associate's degree (like Metropolitan Police Dept in DC) . Just as
some departments offer shift ...

An explorer might be okay. I had a kid ride with his mommy in the backseat last week for a school project...he texted on his phone, bebopped to the music and his momma asked most of the questions. Unfortunately it was a very slow night so it seemed like the 2 hours lasted forever.
