Thanks Goldfrog. I don't know where that full stop on the end came from. That's the trouble with posting late at night and from a PDA.

NEW USER of SatMap Active 10...

Mmmm, I like the sound of extending the card later. Anyway, just a couple of days after ordering my custom-map, it arrived in the post today. Backed it up and then tried it in the SatMap. Looks great. I went for the 25/50 toggle option. Well worth an extra tenner.

Zagg Invisible Shield

Satmapian, The Vikuiti appears to be a different beast to the ZAGG.It is thicker and more rigid than the flexible ZAGG.I can't see the surface having any problem with scratches,it is diffcult to scratch I would imagine as the surface is very smooth. Have not tested the glare reduction of the matt surface and if it doesn't stop raining I never will.Visibility under ordinary daylight is fine. Overall I am very happy with it. If there...

Have spoken to Satmap techie this a.m. It seems I am a dunce. As posted above, the "Show Road Names" option does indeed (if all is working as designed) display street and road names on the base vector road map usually loaded in the A10 itself i.e it isn't dependent upon having a mapcard inserted. The very earliest units didn't have this, the base vector map was on the mapcards, but the vast majority of units had it...

...... due to the relative high cost, we were talking about the disposal, lending, hiring, swapping etc etc of maps surplus to requirements. ie having done the Coast to Coast, what is the point of holding on to the card when somebody else may like it ? Anybody have any more thoughts on 'getting the price down?'

Curiously, they now have a video clip of Graham Thompson from Trail telling us how the 2800 is going to completely revolutionise the way we use satnav devices. It's obviously not that good, though.

Recognising SD map cards
Published (2009-12-14 10:49:00)
Since upgrading to V1.4, my Satmap doesn't see the SD card unless I remove it and re-insert it. So, when I turn the unit on, I only get the base map. Memory status says "No SD card was found". Anyone else had this, or am I missing something?

The new slimline battery has been released both as a power pack and also just the battery and new back.
The sales blurb suggests that you might like to use the slimline battery and back for shorter walks. Not sure the little plug is up to keep swapping batteries.
I just checked out the updated technical specs for the Active 10 here: http://www.satmap.com/techspec.php.

Mike,
This is a difficult one. I wouldn't really want to be continually changing from the rechargable pack to the AA carrier (and back) as I agree - the plug is just not designed to do this and pulling the leads will eventually end in a disaster.
In your situation I would stick with the AA pack and go for rechargeables. I haven't tried these in my Active 10 but in my GARMIN ...

I got one from Satmap, put it on exactly as instructions but still loads of air bubbles. Left it a few days and the smaller ones slowly went, leaving 2 or 3 bigger ones - complained to Satmap, who said if I sent the unit in they would sort it out. Given the price of Special Delivery I didn't do this. After about 3 weeks the bubbles had gone. The film must be very slightly vapour permeable I ...

I've got a freeloader http://www.firebox.com/product/1796/FreeLoader-Sol ar-Charger which isn't too bad, but it does take a long time to charge up and requires a lot of sunshine.
It would be best to actually place it on the outside of a rucksack to charge while walking.
It can, however, charge through USB and you should find that campsites have mobile phone charging for 50p or so....

Darren - with all the updates reported in version 1.4 is it worth changing the old wish-list sticky to a new one the represents what people want now as opposed to what they wanted before 1.4 (or even earlier)?

Welcome.
I'm afraid that you will find that 1:25 scale maps are only available directly from satmap. The explanation I was given by the manager of my local Blacks is that there is not enough margin in these fo retailers to be interested.
Many of us here have found that the custom site centered maps are a better option.

While I am pleased and impressed with Satmap's latest upgrade of the software there is one feature g they have removed that I would like to put in a strong plea to have returned.
On the earlier software I could show or hide whole categories of POI icons. Now I have to make this choice for each individual icon. I have hundreds of Hill Forts in one category and hundreds of Castles in ...

You're right it has gone!
I hadn't noticed before. The road names were there when I had 1.4 installed from the download.
Has this been missing on more recent devices, or is it just omitted from the SD card?
If the omission is intentional, I think we should have warned. It's not in the user guide anymore.
