it's not so much axeing them as swindon did but simply not getting any new 'fixed' cams or replacing them. well, other than replacing them with specs instead - which, last time i checked, are fixed in a single position anyway to be honest though, specs are the only speed cameras that seem to have any real effect anyway - you can;t just slow down for 2 seconds then accelerate again! Come to think of it, "Parties" is a pretty good name for them - Cheese and Wine, Garden, Lakeside, Housewarming, Second House Housewarming, Duckhousewarming, you name it, and all on expenses!

Sorry you're correct! I was told by two different people it was an urban myth. Quote: Under Regulation 109 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, it is an offence to drive a motor vehicle on a road if the driver is in such a position as to be able to see, whether directly or by reflection, a television screen showing anything other than information: (a) about the state of the vehicle or equipment; (b) about the...

That would make it an expensive portable TV though. There are much cheaper options out there. One could argue that is is reasonable to give the "TV" to the kids in the back whilst driving down the motorway. I have been out in Hong...

Driver issued Redlight Ticket...
Published (2009-12-23 11:19:00)
The Daily Telegraph's motoring section had a similar case a few years ago. It turned out that the emergency vehicle was an unmarked police car from another force so the local police had no knowledge of it and its blue lights did not show on the Red Light Camera image (though there was no mention of it being booked?). He eventually managed to idnetify it and get charges dropped. One suggestion was in such a case to report it to a police...

Incredibly dangerous as many have said, why would you want a tv on your dashboard, utter lunacy! I would also prefer to have higher quality useful nav features, fewer bugs and more up to date maps before we get all these extra nonsense features.

I loved the system they showed on the Gadget show where the passenger could watch TV but the very same screen showed the GPS to the driver Can't remember what it was though, but it was something built into the car dashboard.

That's very nice but I don't recall the cost dropping to £19.56 for the last year or so to reflect the 15% rate! It's stayed the same price right through. Discuss......................

while i'm not the greatest fan of speed cameras i would query the statistics here... there have actually been more incidents (2 serious + 4 slight = 6 compared to 1 fatal + 4 slight = 5 in 2008). i also don't see how you can directly compare 3 months in one year with 3 months in another. were all the other conditions exactly the same? were there the same number of cars? were there the ...

I wonder how many of these 'foreign' cars are actually British but have their number plates in a foreign style like German or French. I see an increasing number of these on my travels now. Does anyone know if these can be detected by Gatsos and mobile cameras ?

Reported the other day in the Tameside Advertiser is the story of a driver who moved into a Redlight controlled junction to allow a speeding 999 Police van to get through. A few days later he was stunned to find a NIP (Notice of Intent to Prosecute) drop through his letterbox. After requesting the photos of the infringement he says you can clearly see the Police Van passing him in the ...
