Hey dude. I'm thinking about importing the engine to the US with possibly the MUA5 and doing the swap. I was curious. Was yours an auto before? How was the auto to manual swap? I'm more worried about the gasoline to diesel swap though. I know the engine bolts on, what else did you have to do to get it to run? Did you find a write up or something? I could really use your help! _________________ 99' Rodeo LSE 4x4- V6 3.2L 4...

Though first gen Troopers and first gen Rodeo's don't share the exact engine it only differs in displacement. First gen Troopers GM 2.8, Rodeos GM 3.1 so it's close enough for me to call them the same. _________________ 91 Trooper LS 3.1 tranplant, 5 speed 94 Trooper

I would do a leak down test. If it leaks down too fast dry but holds ok with a shot of oil in the cylinder, then its rings. Since you say it doesnt smoke at all and seems to run ok, I would suspect valves not seating properly. Which, with a leak down test wont hold pressure either way.

its a complete piece of s--- which will continue to break. i can;t remeber what i did when mine broke for the third time, but essentially i put a bolt in the middle - may have had to drill it out to fit the bolt can;t remember it was years ago.. the center piece is plastic so it just snaps if the wipers freeze to the windows.

OK folks, I am going to buy my motor today. I'm gonna need a lot of guidance going forward.
First off, does anyone have a starter jig they can lend/sell me? Otherwise, I will order the kit from Rodney Dickman's site (man, that's a great name).
After I get the motor home, and get the starter holes drilled, what would be the remaining steps, in order, that I should follow before the...

If it aint broke don't fix but start saving for a GOOD rebuilt or re-manufactured engine.
You could buy a good compression tester for about $30 bucks and re-test yourself. Thats what I'd do anyway.
The troopers are prone to have axle wrap due to old weak leaf springs. That shutter could be comming from that.
Engines will ping if the compression is too low. higher octane ...

the transmission you likely have now is the bullet proof MUA5.
That is an awesome swap and I'm sure a lot of people, including myself, are very jealous. _________________ Chris

I give her a good bath to start with, then have the alternator checked out. Sounds like that is most likely your problem. A fluid change would also be a very good idea. I wouldn't pull the pan though.

If they can't/won't honor their warranty, it constitutes a breach of warranty. Not having the parts is not (a legal) excuse, they are legally bound to remedy any loss you have incurred on a warranted product. Basically they can fix it, replace the whole unit, or give you your money back. A lot depends on the specific wording of the warranty itself, but if I were you, I would demand a replacement...
