First shot at the moon!
Published (2009-12-07 20:53:00)
Just for reference, this is one I took of the moon quite a while ago now. Sorry if I got it wrong with the Nikon 5000D, I just assumed it had Mirror Lock-up on it as most DSLRs do these days. If it hasn't then does it have Live View mode at all? If so, that is essentially the same as the mirror is locked up so that you can see the view on your monitor. If not, do as mentioned using a remote release to fire it or using self-timer so that...

Negative space is still a big thing, I love doing it, a little bit too much! image looks fine on my monitor I feel the pose is making her head look tiny and because of that a tad unflattering, do like the idea though, cropping out the jean would balance it a bit more but then it is a maternity shot so you need to see the bump I'd be inclined to bring her back towards the wall a little bit more and bring her head over her shoulder towards...

I like the negative space, like the processing although for my liking it is a little to much. And certainly love the bump

Mirror lock up.... I had a look for this, but, as far as I can find out, there isnt one?.... ( If anyone can find it please correct this????.....) I have found that it has a AE Lock that is supposed to replace that, from menu, Custom settings menu, and if you alter this setting, it alters what the AE-L button that is to the top right of the screen... It allows you to lock the Auto Exposure for complicated shots.?...

I think that this is going a bit over the top. My exposure was 1/125sec on one shot and 1/250sec on the other how many of you resort to mirror lock at that shutter speed? I think that this is theory for theories sake and whilst it may give maximum definition on a static subject the moon is a moving object, indeed if you look at it through a telescope you will constantly be realigning the scope. How big are you planning to make your pictures,...

For a first try you did well. If you had given a little less exposure you would have got more detail in the surface. Here's one I took earlier this evening. It depends not only how good your lens is, the clarity of the atmosphere plays a big part as well. It wasn't too bad tonight in my area but it can be better. It's better to try to get a partially lit moon then you get more detail in the...

Looking at the small file size are you enlarging just a small area of the frame? What is your exposure? Do you use a tripod or monopod? Are your images soft no matter what lens you use or just when you use a long lens? Do your images seem sharper when using flash? Are you shooting RAW or Jpeg?

Well I love mono and I have spent years getting my tech right and then along came digital so I had to start again!...... I am a firm believer that you must get it right at the time of shooting or get it right in the camera... there is not enough light on the girls head.. thats a fact! other than that you may be able to correct this image using levels or the dodge tools! I think the flash set up ...

... Works for me, whatever version I look at.... This is, to me, one of the main reasons for B&W, 'cos some photo's, like this, just work better in B&W, so it ticks all the boxes for me.... Photo of the week contender in my books.
