Also part of the reason I never go anywhere...very few people I would trust enough to watch Khan and be able to deal with something if it happened. Between him and the cats I would be more stressed being away than might be worth it.

another snow shoveler here. I shovel off both decks in case they can't hold it long enough for me to get the paths in their yards done. After the decks are clean(and I mean clean, first I shovel sbow off then I take a big heavy duty (barn strength) corn broom and sweep anything remaining off) Next, I make a gazillion paths thru their yards(have a fenced in front yard and back yard both), all the paths intertwine so they can get back to...

Teach her to sit - rather than giving her something not to do, give her something to do. That's her job here. Your job is to keep her on leash until she's calm (which has the added benefit of keeping her from running outside to greet the next person in line) - you can step on the leash to keep her from being able to jump up. And your guests job is to LISTEN TO YOU - tell them they are not to look at, speak to, or acknowledge your pup...

For Drop it, the food in your hand encourages the dog to drop what is in their mouth. Ive done this even when playing tug with Cruz, hard part is getting a hold of the treat when dog is super strong and excited. You may have to wave it in the dogs face and once the dog drops it, say "drop it" then treat. I try not to use the word NO, I do a "eh eh" or "aint" type of sound. When she pulls on...

ok gotcha sharon thanks.. to the OP, if your dog was pacing while you were trying to work out that is his signal to you that he has to go potty.. some dogs give very faint signals, others better ones, you just have to find what your dogs signal is.. but to say he annoys you is pretty bad though....

We play the radio loudly or put on a nature sounds cd. If they crate, it helps to put a blanket on the crate and set the radio/cd near the crate. Also you can purchase that D.A.P. spray (google it) for those times and spray the D.A.P. on a blanket or towel that's in the crate or over it.

Well, this went well! My dogs are desert dogs, we rarely see the rain for long enough to need to pee in it. They do enjoy puddles and snow on the ground though! secretly I almost wish I had a need for raincoats hehehe

Since this thread has pretty much gone WAY OT: I shovel a path for my dogs too (when we get a lot of snow). I sweep off the deck so Kaiser doesn't have to stand in the snow to look down the road. My parents have a bichon type doggie and my Dad snow blows paths around the back yard for him. Some of us might need professional help.

Desensitizing a dog

You just defined a roadblock issue: Your dog is afraid of the car or is overstimulated by the moving car or gets car sick. Whatever the specific issue is you need to acclimate your dog to the car. That is your goal: You need to use desensitization and counterconditioning techniques to help your dog...

I think this is a cute post! hehe I'd rather have a dog use his nose to get to know me than shy away and hide. But I can see where you're coming from, and that's invading your space. I found this site. It didn't mention anything about preventing your pup's interest in your pants hehe. http://www.dogacademy.com/dog-behavior/crotch- snif fing.aspx

The two here are both very dog social, but not 100%. They are separated whenever I am not in the house, and let free in the house when I am, even when I'm asleep. In my opinion, that's because of the two dogs, and not because they are two pit bulls. If they ever went to stay at my parents, I would insist on the same treatment at a minimum (and actually, because it was up to three dogs - the ...

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I would keep doors between them at all times. I don't know your home set up, but in my house I have two small spare rooms. Oscar is in one, Liberty is in the other. That's where they stay when I'm not in the house. If it turned out they couldn't be out together even when I was there, one would be in the room, the other loose, and I would rotate. ...

Yup, first read this thread, carefully and with an open mind. Second, try to remember you really are not under attack, because I suspect you're about to get quite an eyeful for saying you want your dog to be friends with other dogs and so you take it to the dog park. Everyone else, please take a deep breath and remember honey vs. vinegar - be gentle. Now. Your dog really doesn't need ...

I have a 'shoe dog' here too. Never has she chewed them, but one or both shoes will always be in her bed or on the sofa when I get home, Lately she gets a sock out of the dirty clothes basket andl awys with it too. She is almost 15 years 0ld and has been doing the shoe thing all her life. I think it is a scent /security/comfort thing.

Hi Mom-to-be, First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy and second of all, I am no expert. I wanted to share some info I googled http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIPS/DogTip_Baby. php or http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0971 303304/ Have you and your fiance sat down and developed an exercise program for Phoenix that fits both your schedules? Bump for a trainer/ behaviorist. I am NOT either a trainer or behaviorist, but the 'alpha' theory has been discounted (putting her in a submissive position) and messing with her food, etc. PLEASE do a search in the Training & Behavior threads on these subjects. Really good information. Best to you and Pixie.

As mad as it makes me to hear of yet another BYB Pit Bull with issues and someone who bought a dog without doing any research I will tell you that it is your responsibility to protect that pup. She is fine with your dogs so that indicates she is not dog intolerant, she just needs a slower introduction to strange new dogs and people. Learn how to straight arm people right in the chest if you ...

Im wondering about the same thing. Although My dog knows all basic obedience I want to do it to say that we did it. I made the mistake of feeling like we had to hurry to get him in training, thinking I would get help with behavior issues, but the problems just got worse ...
