We'll get this out immediately: When used properly, steroids do NOT shorten a dogs lifespan. In fact, I've seen them save many a dog on the verge of euthanasia because their allergies were so bad they were miserable and unable to live a normal life. If your dog is...

Porcupine quills--Emergency.

And they never learn, do they? I've known dogs who'd get into them every chance they could! Memories are so short for porcupines and so long for other stuff, it's bizarre!

I can live with some scratches on my floors (he's really quite nice about it, actually) but when he's left alone he scratches the HELL out of his ears/face/head. We're working on his allergies/itchiness but it's taking a while since he was quite bad when he came to us. I also fear the splintering as they get longer. He doesn't...

Both Liberty and Fiona try to make out with me after I've put on my lipstick, but it's funny that you mention this particular item, since I have been slathering my hands with my Burt's Bees Hand Salve after a few bleach-filled days at work, and Liberty can't get enough of it. The first three ingredients are Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil and Beeswax, which sounds much better than most of my cooking, so I can't really...

Cruz Diagnosed with Extreme Hip...
Published (2009-11-26 12:30:00)
I just read the info on the different types of surgery posted for me. I do see that they can recommend FHO on very active dogs as well (beyond the weight limit) because an active dog can regenerate the false joint faster. I didnt see that point made clearly before. My guy is a pup so therefore, wants to be active, but I see now how he has pooped out sooner because of the bad hip. There are two good things about that surgery... it costs...

Put the food down and let them eat when they're hungry. By switching foods all the time, you're teaching your dogs to wait for something better. Once your pups are eating again, slowly transition to whatever middle of the road food you have selected and try that for 2-3 months to see if you like it... not perfect, then try something else. Don't switch more than every 2-3 months unless there is a ...

A good diet and deworming can help more than goat's milk. What brand of food is she eating now? Has she been properly dewormed?

I think you're on track with your research and coming up with puppy pyoderma. However, pyoderma means infection of the skin, and you'll need antibiotics, or at the very least an antiseptic medicated bath, to help your pup get over her infection as quickly as possible.

Double post - I saw on page 5 where someone mentioned the Surrey Meat
Packers. I actually stopped in there today and came out with a bag of ten
one pound portions of frozen raw food thinking this would be an easy switch
over and now I'm so confused! Based on the formulas, my dog (9 month old
lab/pit cross) should get 1 1/2 pound of raw food. He is currently only
getting 2 cups of kibble a day (...

Has she had bloodwork and x-rays done? Puppies should be ravenous, and if they aren't, its rarely stubborness, but because they don't feel good!

Can you post a picture? My girl is about 20" to the withers; she looks her best at 47-50lbs. When she gets up to 55, she starts losing her tuck but judging by numbers alone doesn't account for individual dogs' build and genetics.

DAY 30 The yeast is considerably more widespread and has gotten worse. But she is not itching nearly as much. Before, it was constant, 24/7 itching/licking. Now, it is just her itching/licking habit she developed that we have to watch for. And the yeast I'm sure makes her uncomfortable but it is NOTHING compared to the sleepless nights and constant blood stained fur from before. The progress is...
