I know this is an old thread but still a great topic Cad 500 is an awesome mill if you can find one. 472 is no slouch either. The blocks were excellent castings and usually they last a very long trouble free life. Folks use them a lot down here on airboats because of their great torque and relatively light weight. They do pretty good running the propeller right off the crank, but when you add a gear reduction they turn into a monster. Only...

Mine don't fit very well either. They hit the shackle bolts. I cut the flanges off the headers and had the exhaust expanded over the collectors. I used band type exhaust clamps to seal them up.

your truck has a 14b semi float, the rear axle you bought was a 14b full float. dont ask, search. i doubt you got a d80. a d70 uses all the same outer stuff as a d60, visually there are allmost identical.

If you wanted to do it on a bit of a budget you could run some 18" bilsteins until you could afford the link killer bypasses.

MMMM... 4.8l and 4l80! Gotta love the vans!
I would by a Scan Gauge II or something, be cheaper, and it will read the trans temp. The sensors in them already. And it would show lots more shit and you can use it in all your cars.
Install of the cooler is straight Fwd. You can ditch the stock cooler or keep it just run the line from the trans to the ext cool then outlet form the ext ...

take your time gathering parts, deadlines are expensive. do lots of research on cummins websites where it has been done, like 4btswaps.com. own a lot of tools already so you can do it all the fab work yourself. cheap cheap would be an 89-93 cummins beater with the getrag 5 speed. having the whole truck to swap from will eliminate a lot of scrounging for little parts. good luck from a guy on a ...

yeah just pull off the bed, and scrap the whole front clip. Then just don't really turn so they don't hit the cab, and you will be just fine.

Some of you seen some of this before, here goes...
Started with a 83 k10 shortbed, found lying in a yard with no fenders, hood, trans, t case but behold it had 10 bolts and 273s..lol I bought a 84 blazer for the 350,465/208 front clip and the hood. Had to use bushwacker cuttouts to cover where i cut out most of the rust.
Had to change, floor pans, rockers, cab corners, new...

The wires coming from the distributor base plug into the distributor cap. A 'hot' wire from the ignition switch (when in the 'on' position) goes to the 'BAT' spade terminal in the cap. Do not use a ballast resistor or a resistor wire. You need full 12 volts to the HEI all the time. The wire that originally went from the starter solenoid 'R' terminal is no longer used. If you have a tach; the wire...
