Lauren, yeah, that is the biggest headache when upgrading to 5.0 ... if you find curiousity getting the best of you, the procedure to restore the browser isn't too difficult and can be done pretty quickly. I for one am back on 4.6 after some nightmare upgrades last week. I think each bb (with different 3rd party apps installed) is dif, bc I see so many people NOT having issues ...

There's a thread in the Technical Support Blog link in my signature that describes how to do a complete uninstall of Desktop Manager, which I would try before attempting another download of DM. You might also want to consider downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to clean up any remnants of prior RIM installations. Here is a description of what the utility does for you. The download link is also within this description.

Mass storage problem on BB9000
Published (2009-11-21 09:19:00)
That brings up the next question. Is your BB unlocked? And if so, do you know how the unlock was done? There's software out there that can be used to unlock a BB, and it often results in the Mass Storage issue you're experiencing. I haven't tried running the batch file mentioned by Wj18 (don't use Windows box), nor have I heard of the website you mentioned, so I can't give either of you any additional feedback on...

Ok, let's get the basics out of the way. I don't see how they could have gotten erased but, are the apps that you can't backup still on the device. If so, try using a different theme that you know works. see if that works then you know its theme related(not sure how yet). If they are on there and the old theme still has the same issue then I would delete all the apps that are causing me issues ...

I just got one of my old 8318 trackballs out and compared it to the one in my Bold. they look the same but that white ring around the 8310s assembly makes it hard to really compare. If I was betting I'd say yes they are the same.

Tried one today, felt exactly the same as my Curve 8900. Too bad RIM doesn't call it the Curve 9700 , that's a far more accurate description. My initial impression after two hours, is it's a nice minor upgrade, and although I'm eligible, I will pass.

Hi, when I connect my BB9000 to desktop manager on my mac and try to sync it tells me I need to go on mass storage mode, but I've already done that on my BB so Desktop Manager isn't recognizing it. My BB is a UK T-Mobile unlocked Bold and it works perfectly for everything else, I found a solution on Pinstack but I dont know what batch mode means or how to go about it, thnx for any help Wj

What version of Windows are you running? Thinking it may be an administrator rights problem. Also, are you installing DM from the supplied CD or downloaded from RIM. If it's the CD, I would download the newest version from RIM and give it a go.

Shane that sounds a little to deep resoldering a board. If you don't have a soldering iron with a variable heat control you could do more damage than what is already there. I would upgrade and after you have your new device I would then attempt the solder job good luck and post back with what you decide
