There's definitely enough there. I love the shot. The only criticism I have is that most of it is not in focus. From what I can tell, only the tassel and part of his hair in the back are somewhat sharp. Awesome subject.

Great composition and subject, my only difficulty with the shot is that it appears to be rear focused. The tassel at the far side of the hat is crisp and clear and everything forward of that appears soft at this resolution.

Now that I see it, i think Grandpaw is right... his crop might work best... specially for the mystery part!

Ok, no RVs. It really wasn't much work to eliminate them, as there was nice source material for cloning next to them. Shootme, I agree that the rocks are great. Just soooooo much junky branches etc mixed in w/ them .. Bill, not sure, but I think there was something over in the right side that wouldn't look right in the picture, hence, had to limit my panning. Here's the adjustment. I also played with the contrast and density a...

Both are great shots, I like the second one best because of the eyes.

Quick, B&W or Colour?
Published (2009-11-28 23:36:00)
I agree Paula, at first I only had it in colour and thought nice simple and candid shot. Then I looked at it in B&W and thought no this is really nice in B&W too. Then the dilemma and you'd wonder why as it's not an intricate shot...or is it? Thanks

Great composition, though I might crop out the negative space at the top. Worth saving, IMO. I would love to see this in b/w.
Did you post this completely uncropped, btw?

I like both versions but I guess I prefer it with the kid in. More of a story to imagine.
Nice photo.

The RVs seem to detract from the wilderness look I think they should go. It
might look a little strange if the sky was darker than the lake. Nice place
for a break though.

I see the story line here, the use of the apple as a metaphor and the directional waves of the lines is excellent as well. I like the shots a lot, the textures and patterns are very artistic. I miss the colour in the last shot and I hope the apple stands up quickly.
I wish you a speedy recovery, rest up while you can Mike. Cheers, Peter

I guess I am loosing my mind because I thought that I had already posted a
reply but here it goes again. I think the colors are very vivid and stand
out well against the green background. The focus is right on and this
combination makes for a very nice picture, Jeff

I think its got potential mate, but for my taste is a bit to dark on the sides, which IMO affect the composition. You might increase a bit the exposure or the time.

Don,
Another nice photo, but with such an adorable subject it must be easy. BTW be thankful she did not get your hair gene. I hope mine, Maria Eduarda, gets her mothers and grandmothers not any of my genes.

Re: Zarina
Nice shot! Love the composition and the lighting. Good separation from the BG. Good choice of accessories, though a wee bit more processing on the cheeks might be in order as the hottest portion is a bit bumpy. Over all, great shot, and much prefer the color version to the B&W.

I like the use of the "exclusion" layer to kind of posterize this. The pose and expressions are great. Two suggestions for improvement:
1) Use the burn brush to more clearly separate the blondest part of her hair from the background (just a bit along the edge).
2) Knock the saturation in the rose glasses down by 1/3 to 1/2 as it's a bit overpowering.
Excellent work though!

I've been too busy lately to do much shooting, but I wanted to see if I could get some comments on these shots. I took these earlier this summer, but it seems like something just isn't working the way I would like. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
PC

Very poignant and powerful image,
I was going to ask if it was taken in Beriut, but decided that was not necessary after looking at your location, and the plates on the car. Having served for a very short time in Lebanon I can almost hear the AKs and RPGs. Such a shame, it was not so long ago that Beriut was one of the most beautiful cities in the World.
Great shot, if there was a...
