Did somebody get vlc git running with ati? I compilied it (using a small build fix to disable same dxva things in video.c) and --enable-libva with ffmpeg vaapi patched globally installed. But with vlc --ffmpeg-hw all i get is a segfault.

It's funny how things work out. I originally started designing graphics hardware because I got tired of loading paper into the DecWriter

Wow. I started programming on an 8086, and it was already ancient by that time. That really hadn't occurred to me... I'll try a different HDMI input. To the best of my recollection the TV's settings dealt just with various scaling options for the HDMI ports, but it's worth looking into. I was so convinced it was a software issue that I sorta neglected the TV's side of things. Pff, some poor detective I would make

How come sometimes certain OpenGL extensions break or go missing between driver releases? What breaks them and such? Sorry I'm not a programmer or anything, I just want to understand what causes this to happen.

So I could totally be asking in the wrong place, but from all the places that I've looked, this one looks as good as any. So- From what I've read, the 9.3 Catalyst is supported up to the 2.6.28 kernel and x-server version 1.52. My poor laptop is running an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 and REALLY REALLY wants to leave windoze for the newest Linux kernel. The open-source drivers for my card are...

Interesting... I'd love to try it and find out if my 5750 is supported, but more than a little concerned about whether it contains any malware or not. I guess I'll just have to wait for the official release instead

Call me troll but unless OSS driver provides support for new ATI cards, I'm holding on buying any of them. The fglrx is just such a deep sh*t that hurt me too much for my forgiveness, be it the latest version, still crap, period.

Greetings Fine Folk Of The Phoronix Forums! I'm a bit of a newbie to both linux, and this forum (first post!). I've been having some trouble setting up my Fedora 11 based HTPC with my HDTV, and was hoping some of you might be able to help. Basically, I get no signal on my tv 'till I run a console, and alternate between 'xrandr --output DFP2 --off' & 'xrandr --output DFP2 --auto' a few ...

I haven't really got a clue what causes that error, it may be your card isn't supported or it may be some other reason. There may be some extra info in /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log. I have an AGP HD3850 and with my mobo, it won't work properly with fglrx or the OSS drivers unless I set the AGP Aperture size in the bios to 256. 3D support is coming along with the OSS drivers and...

R700 has h264 decode capability via XvBA on the closed driver. I have no idea about the state of 3d on that driver. The open driver supports 3D up to R700, but no video decode *yet*, though it *will* support video decode acceleration via shaders. Quote: Originally Posted by Guilo Hi all !
