ATI wants to hide those files it seems. Classified, high security risk, ATI will be going bankrupt then those files would be officially available.

That was the biggest fault - xvba was not released and then it was more or less obsolete as vdpau was introduced in most media players. So in theory the best would be a native vdpau implemention in fglrx.

Switch to the opensource radeon driver, it's more stable and of better quality than fglrx. I doubt you'll see another asic hang again.

Interesting... I'd love to try it and find out if my 5750 is supported, but more than a little concerned about whether it contains any malware or not. I guess I'll just have to wait for the official release instead

Yep, that's what the beta program is all about. We do weekly drops as the changes accumulate between releases and collect feedback from the beta testers. The word "beta" probably isn't exactly correct since we're doing monthly incremental releases, but what the heck. I don't think we want to make the beta test group any larger right now (dealing with remotely repoted issues takes a lot more...

open drivers work reliably? wow, you're easy to please. "the thing doesn't crash". catalyst 8.5 sure crashed for me, horribly. It wants to work, but once opengl starts, it either segfaults right away, or runs for a bit, then crashes and locks up the system. I'm sure a lot of people want to buy expensive, dedicated 3d cards to move around some windows on an open driver. Forget it, the only way for...

Hi, I have a problem. If I stop Xorg with /etc/init.d/xdm stop from tty, this will not work. Xorg process just starts eat 100% cpu. Killing this process with killall -9 hangs keyboard and probably corrupt something in kernel. I'am using ati 4890 card and 9-10 driver version under Debian testing. Is there any workaround for this problem? Here is the end of xserver log, which is ...

Hi @all, I just wanted to say @bridgman & AMD/ATI: you guys are made of pure awesomeness because: finally I can use a kernel with preemptive rcu, sqlb (slab-allocator) and all the other goodies (BFS, BFQ) from my remembrance this wasn't possible a few months ago so this is the proof that AMD continously is improving their driver in subtle ways and also are ...

I've never been much of a fan of desktop compositing, as it usually only adds eye candy but no real advantage. But this time I've decided to give it a try (again). I've been using Kubuntu 9.10 with the official Catalyst 9.10 on both of my laptop computers, one has HD3200 integrated graphics, the other has a dedicated HD3650. I've enabled KDE desktop effects on both computers, but I've ...
