what should i give with meds

Probiotics would be helpful--they'll help shield him from the diarrhea that can result when the antibiotics unbalance the organisms in his intestine. Ask the vet whether you can give the meds with meals, too--that helps buffer the tummy. Sounds like some heavy duty meds What's going on with poor Beau? Hope he's better soon!

Mollie weighs 24 lbs and he started her on 30 mg once a day, she can smell the pill in the pill pocket (its huge) and she nibbles around it. I've had to coat it with butter and shove it down her twice, which I hate doing. Shes on pain pills and antibiotics, hopefully when they're done she won't be so suspicious of the pill pockets

Kira just became very lethargic and was stumbling a bit going up/down stairs. One back leg seemed to be weaker. She stopped eating and couldn't poop - so we took her off the meds and bumped up the cortisone level with another med 'cause we think she was going through cortisone withdrawal. Then the diarrhea started. I spoke to the vet Monday and instead of giving her the 50 mg pills, she ordered in 10 mg pills 'cause it's a...

Viral Wart, papilloma, or tumor?

Thanks both! LOL, yep, Shadow definitely rules the household! She often swats at the dogs just for fun (and she has claws, so the dogs know to watch out). She especially picks on Wall-e for some reason, I guess because he's the newcomer! I'm so glad I still have her -- she's 15 years old, and still healthy and happy.

Slinky Update / Food Dilemma

Ya I guess I was just gung-ho on doing the best for her, to kind of give her quality of life but I think I will just go back to a 3 star food. she did just fine. She is not a picky eater (my any means LOL) so she will really eat any kibble i put in front of her. I will definately monitor her drinking/urinating. Its snowing here now so I can definately tell when theres colour to her urine. I reallly think the protein was just a bit too much for...

I am new to this forum. I own two minature Schnauzers that I adore. Over the last year both of them have developed Struvite Bladder stones. Luckily they were struvite stones that can be disolved with a special food available only from the vet, as far as I know. It has taken almost six months to disolve the stones accompanied by regular visits to the vet for urine test and xrays to monitor this condition, not to mention the extraordinarily high...

I am sorry to hear this. I can only tell you of my personal experience. My rott had the same problem. After testing and seeing the obvious, a tumour grew rapidly on the brain. He had a stroke and one side of his face slid. Eventually the whole side of his body as well paralyzed and he succomed to the cancer and the paralysis. I hope this is not your case, but ask them to check for a tumour. Best of luck to you.

Bad skin

Hi. I have an itchy terrier also. Seems to run in some of these guys. I have found the humidifier helps. My dog sleeps in our bedroom, so I run the humidifier in this room. It helps my skin and lets me sleep more comfortably as well. I also use a fish oil pill in her food. A humidifier is definitely something that won't hurt. Good luck.

It MIGHT help
I know with my two when the electric heat goes on (from November to early March) their skin gets dryer. I run the humidifier for most of the winter and it seems to help. I also up their oils ( salmon oil and flax seed oil) for that time. (not to much other wise they get the runs.)

We live in an area with lots of wildlife and our guys get things like whipworms, hookworms, lung worms, tape worms, etc. After years of going through the expense of testing them all and having to treat them all, we just put them on a three-times-a-year deworming schedule. We buy Panacur by the tub and treat in June (to take care of the worms picked up since snowmelt), again in September (to ...

She might actually like the taste of pumpkin--our dogs consider it a treat. If you do try it, get the pure pumpkin, not the stuff with all the sugar and pie spices in it. Or try strained butternut squash for babies (no salt).
Your vet might be able to give you advice on something OTC that would work--but don't give her anything without running it by the vet, first. Not all people meds ...

Welcome to the board, whitelabmix.
Have you notified the vet that's been seeing her for the problem? The side-switch might be the clue he needs to figure out what's going on

Is it hard like a toe nail? Some one else had something like this on their dog. Perhaps she will see this and comment. Most definitely go see a vet.

Hi. I remember your posts about Slinky. Obviously you should listen to your vet over my comments. My vet did not recommend senior foods. Instead he said to just feed a little less of the normal diet. Seniors have decreased activity levels and don't need as large a food portion.
It is great you've read Dr. Lee's post about increased drinking/urination. Great (and I mean great) information in ...

Welcome to pets.ca Bill102M
I have never had a dog with this problem but have heard that once the stones have been dissolved it is best to feed a raw or homecooked diet.
I'm sure other members here will be able to help you more.
