Using Restricted Groups in AD...
Published (2009-12-25 09:15:00)
Hello, To clarify further.. We have some mischevious users of XP and Vista computers removing the Domain Administrators group from the local Administrators group on their computers. and also we need to have a desktop admin AD group to be placed in the Administrator group of every computer on the network for remote administrative functions. This is most common problem we are facing since long time. I work for a medium sized organization, and we...

DC time out of sync

Got it fixed. For whatever reason, I never seem to think Safe Mode is going to fix anything. Well, it allowed me to get in and reset the clock. After that, everything worked fine. -Phrancie

Pre-Windows 2000 User Already...
Published (2009-12-22 18:54:00)
One of the administrators decided to rename the 'Everyone' group, and then someone else told them to switch it back. There are two domain controllers across a WAN. Now when we try to change the pre-Windows 2000 name back to Everyone we get the message: The following Active Directory error occurred: The specified user already exists. Does anyone have suggestions on a way to get around this? Thanks, David

Like recently on one my XP machine, domain admins grp was taken out of local administrators grp accidently, and we didn't have the pwd for local admin account...so technically we were not able to login as admin on that machine....in that case using...

Valid computers not on AD list
Published (2009-12-24 19:27:00)
Hello, I had major problems with AD, when the old Win 2003 Ent primary drive failed. This was cured by installing Win 2008 Ent R2 and activating AD plus DNS etc. Active Directory is native Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 based. Problems arose with networking under R2, and after a technical session with Microsoft, the major problems were corrected. Now then: the techie's comments, and research throughout the Web, has shown that for computers...

Managed to figure it out... Under the GPO User Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Software Restrictions Then Add Software Restriction Policy The Designated File Types will list the files that can't be opened, add your own if not already listed. Go to the Security Levels within this and make Disallowed as default... When the files/programs run they insantly close ...
