Holding Back But Now Need Help

Can you ask your vet to consult with another more senior vet? Or is there a vet school nearby to which you could take Miss Logan to for a second opinion? I do think you need another, experienced set of eyes on the issue now. I think of how much Dr. Joerg Meyer at Tufts helped Miss Hoppy, when her own vets found trouble, and didn't have good options to offer.

do you think it could be injured because of rough play.

Holding Back But Now Need Help

Towards the end of November I noticed that Logan was drinking more and ravenously hungry. When I have my morning coffee, she eats at least 10 "cookies" after doing her business. She will bark and talk and scream until I give her one after another, to the point I take my coffee upstairs and shut the bedroom door. She was eating her dinner fine, but drank so much all the time that she was waking me 3x at night. A first since...

You mentioned Logan was drinking more than usual and was eating ravenously. You didn't mention if he was losing weight? If you increase his food and he's still ravenous AND seems to be losing weight I would look into EPI or malabsortion syndrome. Could be his pancreas isn't producing the necessary enzymes to digest his food which would cause him to feel starved and lose weight .

Breeds like malamutes, German shepherd dogs, Siberian huskies, etc. will take some time to have their ears fully standing. They will go up and down at times, so just give it some time.

My turn

Me, How is Louie doing? Are the meds working for him? My sisters dog was a rat terrier & she had him for over 13 years. He rallied many times for her & made it through. You & Louie are in my thoughts & prayers.

Hi Bonny - thanks for asking about Louie and to everyone else for their kindness. I wouldn't exactly say he has bounced back because he still has the anal gland problem and is on his second round of antibiotics. It is very cold and icy here now so walking is a challenge for him but he is still game to slip slide along even if not very far.

Quote: I was pissed off. I hate to report her to my fave vet, the owner, but I want an answer. Logan's more important to you than you upsetting a vet. I have reported a vet and a vet assitant to the vet/owner. Demand an answer. Do know, there are times that things are difficult to diagnose, been there before. At least talk to the head vet about your concerns. I hope it's not too serious, what ever's going on with her. I will...

He eats quite well so long as we make it interesting but is steadily losing weight.
I can relate to what you are going through but that sentence about the weight loss got me thinking. Did your vet do a test to see if your dog might be suffering from malabsorption? Of course as they age and if he's in pain maybe the weight loss is just part of the downhill progress. I hope your dg will ...

I just use an OTC glucosamine/chrondritin (sp??) complex that you can pick up in any vitamin section of any store. I get it at Walmart - very cheap compared to what you buy from the vet.

Natural Balance is a good food and not too expensive. You can find it at your local feed store. Not sure about petsmart.

Blue Buffalo is also good and they make a organic one called Blue Wilderness but it has a lot of protein in it.

So, her pre-op on thursday night overall went pretty well. They drew blood, (poor thing had a huge hematoma on her right jugular!), took chest x-rays, and tested her urine, and checked her anals.
Her behavior was okay. She tried numerous times to open the door from inside of the radiology room, (I kept her in their for obvious reasons, her dog aggression)! Luckily, the door was pretty heavy,...
