Hm. The only difference really is that the Core is the grain-free version and it would make sense that they would need to eat less of it, although I think it may be just because it's lacking the "bulk" of the Wellness cuz it's all basically the same. But I don't know for sure!

Thanks everyone. More thinking to do...... Special, Sheila (vet) said that Tilly wasn't bad enough for surgery but she couldn't tell what the future held as it varied so much from dog to dog, Pip

Krystal, Walker (who is 60 pounds but fed for a 50 pounder) eats less food than your two 40 pound dogs... ...that is just crazy. Walker gets 3 cups a day, and Chica gets 2 cups a day...

Don't follow the bag... They always put that you should feed more than you actually should.

Yeah that's prolly 'cause mine are starved teenagers with crazy metabolisms. Lil monsters. I'd say back him down a bit and see if that cuts down on the weight. I was surprised at how fast Tosca put on weight on the Core. I wasn't expecting that at all.

Like lots of pain meds, when used long term it can cause liver damage. There is also the chance that a particular dog reacts badly, and suffers this damage very quickly, but we use it all the time at the shelter, and I've never known a dog who's had a bad reaction.

It was my understanding that rimadyl, as a NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) was most effective used regularly, rather than as needed. When my beagle Nikki was on it, she was given a shot as a loading dose, and then took it daily for a week, and then it was dropped to every other day.....I think that's how it went. It's been a few years, and the records are put away in a box somewhere. But the usage may have changed since...

Another option is an adequin regimen. I use Rimadyl on Puma, I taper off during the summers, and restart it in the winter. I will have to really up the dose here in Pa though. Puma is an old boy, and I'm more concerned at this time with quality rather than quantity. With Tilly being so young, you may want to research other pain meds also. Routine blood work is also a necessity with it, to monitor liver function.

We actually carry these at my store, they're fabulous! They're made out of Yak milk and basically it's a very very hard smoked cheese that slowly dissolves. They're great for hard chewers and last extremely long. It may give some dogs a bit of gas due to being a dairy product but lots are perfectly fine with it. It's 100% digestable (but not 100% unchokeable so you must supervise) and great for ...

A woman at Petsmart was telling me about it today. Just wondering if anyone had used the site? Supposedly most food is delivered for free. I'm liking the idea of not lugging home my 23lb bag anymore
