The goal of PD authors should be the same as dentists -- do your job so well that the client no longer needs you.

I am stupid and life is great!
Published (2009-12-01 21:04:00)
I am one of the most stupid on this planet. Stupidity is a sign of creativity, many stupid concepts are indeed creative, so creative that they are plain stupid because of their excess of creativity. On top of that I am weird. This is why many people do not understand my way of perceiving reality. And some times I do not understand either.

Rei, You are a lot of fun and I can see I can't win this! I will simply conclude that things like self-esteem have no place in my PD. Measurable or not! To re-iterate, for me, PD is not about improving the "self" but ones life situation. Yes, it can be a fine line, but I know which side of the line I prefer!

this is something i read about in the magazine Scientific American Mind, and i think some folks here might find it useful. some researchers did studies and they found that emotion doesn't have to start within us. it can also start from the surface. what do i mean? well, they did part of their research with women who had gotten botox injections. these women weren't able to make sad facial expressions because of the facial paralysis...

Hey everybody, I've been spending a lot of time in the last month reading the posts on the Emotional Mastery forum and expressing some of my thougths. I've noticed a lot of people struggle with managing emotions and seem kind of... stuck. So I thought a would share a post I wrote today on my blog addressing what I think is a key issue of self improvement and emotional mastery: Ideas With A Kick ? Personal development ideas I can do...

I prefer to think of life as being exactly where I want to be, and wondering what I want to do with my time, instead of thinking 'if I achieve this goal and this goal, I will be happier/more satisfied'. For me that creates a never-ending feeling of not being completely satisfied, as you'll never complete all your goals as new ones are always created. I do have goals, but they are more just things I would like for myself than my...

I also love old school vid games. Probably not as old skool as you like em,but I digg the first NBA street on PS2, sends me right back to childhood. As for me, I like a lot of music, but when at school, on my mp3 player I like to listen to some good ol' west coast rap from the 90s. A lot of people listen to this stuff, but they are shocked that I listen to this because I wear a trench coat, ...

You know, sometimes I think this word "abundance" is just another way of saying that we have more of something relative to somebody else. I truly wish that when people talk about "abundance" they mean that they personally have more than enough of something- i.e. an abundance of food. But if everyone all had an abundance of food then the term would seek to exist. When was the last time you heard ...

You've taken the first step, which is to realise that the problems you perceive in your life have causes within yourself. Congratulations! One thing that I've found very useful in getting rid of beliefs like this (and do note that I'm just a beginner at this) is to practise not agreeing with people, including yourself. I don't mean DISagreeing, just not agreeing. Start small, for example ...

I may suggest to talk about it at home. Having kids was not exactly a good step in that direction. However I am sure that you may negotiate with your husband a find a nice agreement. It is not like you plan to go to be "living la vida loca" so I am sure an agreement could be reached. Relationship is about making your partner's life plan come true. I think this should be presented in a...

i find that grinning cheshire-like and guffawing make for good negativity laxatives. Current job of performance art retail style helps with that ... "workin" the sales targets over with a frown ... eh not so much. Like most anything else, a learned behavior is just that ... so I can learn to be ... from the outside in sometimes. Loved this post .. thanks

The real problem is that this personal-development "stuff" is an industry. It's not is anyones interests to keep it simple- however correct your post may have been! The more you can throw in the pot, the more money can be made. So instead of your simple 1, 2, rinse repeat approach, we can now throw in different lenses, belief questioning, voodoo, spiritualists, lifestyle gurus and so forth. ...

My girlfriend and I were just talking about this type of rating scale for happiness a few days ago! Many surveys use it. "How satisfied with your life are you?" One study found an average of 7.7 for the United States. I thnk Ireland citizens scored above 8. England was a little below U.S. Asian countries scored lower than many, which I found interesting. It really depends on how you define ...

I would suggest the first two won't be too much of a problem among most 'liberal minded' people of most religions, the third could well cause you very difficult problems even with people you do know well (of any religion). I don't know much about your religion but most of us (maybe not on here, but Joe Public) will have formed much of our views about it from horror films and the like. I ...

The biggest problem is defining what self improvement is. It's so all encompassing. And then as soon as you have improved in one way or another, someone else will come along and suggest you wear a different lens. I think personal development gets into some very grey areas. For example Steve's post on how to get up early was excellent. It was informative, had been tested and was based in ...

why not start with acceptance? accept who you are, as you are, with all your glorious flaws. we can accept who we are and still choose improvement. we accept our strengths and accept our weaknesses - without judging or criticizing ourselves. as we choose an area for improvement, we can remind ourselves it's something we WANT to do, not something we think we NEED to do - because we are ...
