i am just going o sell it i have 6 911's to drive so a total rebuild is not going to happen everything else looks great and seem to run fine other than the leek in the cylinder. the cylinders have a steal/iron sleeve in them so getting a good in spec jug would not be a bad thing. the mud blocking the fins and restricting the air flow in that spot is the only reason for the thing to crack .the leak down test came in around 6 to7% overall...

Bill, Thanks for passing on your experience. I enjoy the heck out of the 912e, however if it gets to a point where it becomes smog challenged beyond what I want to deal with I may part with it. Hopefully that day is long down the road. Both my 928 and 912 are weekend cruisers for fun. The 928 smog emissions are so low, it has results as if it were new? Not bad for a 20 year old car! Charles

I agree on the vacuum leaks. Test one more thing! Look at the air mixture controller, it sits right by the air filter. Behind it is a large electrical plug going into the controller. Start your engine and then see if your engine cuts out if you touch the plug or the wire. Mine had the same problem and I discovered on accident that the plug was nit correctly seated and some of the soldered wires inside the plug got loose and send a bad signal...

cali4sun I've seen those FAQ's on the BAR site. I can't dispute them, but what I'm guessing is that the accuracy of measuring has greatly increased to the point where a very slight +/- can be the difference between driving off with your new certificate or contemplating suicide. With one mid-70's Porsche I owned I got caught-up in what they call bouncing, where you fail, then go for your free retest, fail again, go...

well, I have lived in California for about 22 years now and they want old cars off the road so badly its incredibly obvious. They do not make money off of old cars, they make no tax income, very little registration fees and the don't like that they "pollute" more. Keep wishing and dreaming that California politics is all Angels with halos... More like Lucifer in disguise.

Michael, some of the gland nuts that hold the flywheel on are made of a higher strength material, so check with the supplier on the flywheel bolt. I think some may be up around 350 ft lbs to 400.

You can't, they only made the one. You have to use the regular 912 and a 69 911 wiring diagram.

Ifausty: You might try cleaning all the connections. They have been known to be corroded on these older cars. If fact you might just clean all the connections on the car. Then it is just the matter of making sure that the wires are correct. If you are having a problem. You might also get or make a larger wiring diagram. It will help you trace the wires. I use one that is about 24"...

Congrats on your purchase! Is the dashboard painted? That VIN is for 912 #159 chassis from the Porsche factory... there would also be 912 #450159, a chassis made by Karmann the same year check out 912 Registry SiteMap :: Porsche (TM) 912 & 912E owners worldwide! for the VIN Table page, paint code page, original specs, etc.

Pete: I've owned two of these cars and have never heard of one delivered without the smog pump and all of the other equipment. Probably the best verification of this is the factory repair manual which shows only photos of emission-equipped motors and makes no reference to a so-called 49 state car and as a US market-only car, there is no ROW version. As far as finding the smog equipment, ...

L-Jet systems, once sorted out are pretty trouble-free. I've owned two of these cars and both had problems with the airflow meter. Back when these cars were new, customers complained about lack of performance and many shops "adjusted" the airflow meter (the petentiometer inside) for richer running. As for your current problem, once you're sure you don't have a vacuum leak, check the ...
