I asked four specific and relevant troubleshooting questions of the guy as to exactly what the conditions were under which the noise occurred--engine running or not, car moving or not, etc.--and got no answer. But he sure knows I think he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer because he can't spell the make of his car, and now he tells me I gotta go get laid. Okay, I'll do that.

I think the entire Porsche community is missing an important point. After this (long) amount of time and the number of MM customers something would be done. This reflects badly on everyone in the Porsche business, including PAG and PCNA. Another disappointment is the California consumer protection (once the leader) and the California State Attorney General and the local district attorneys. Even the United States Attorney and the Postal...

There is a ball bearing under the black cover. The covers provides tension on the ball and the ball allows the plate, which holds the points to move back and forth for advancing of the timing. I imagine it's to keep all parts in alignment and tensioned equally for smooth operation of the timing mechanism.

$5000 for wheels/tires, tell them to go bang their head against the curb. We don't drive stooped bling bling cars. My 1979 SC is 100% showroom stock except for the radio. If the original Porsche factory look is what you like than go on eBay and find a set of 16 X 7" inch and 16 X 8" Fuschs. Take them to Discount Tire and have them send them out to their vendor to have the wheels trued, ...

I've seen a lot worse... Mostly caused by stray battery acid. It's a very common problem but certainly not terminal. I'm not going to state the obvious but everything to fix this is available and all the info can be found here by searching any number of rebuild/back date threads.

the megasquirt system will work with the PMO ITB's or any engine management system. The efi system would give better gas mileage and if you go with the megasquirt II system, it can control spark also giving that old engine a complete electronic management package for around $500.00. so around 3-4K total sounds about right. It is a DIY product so you need a laptop to program and tune it. but ...

Sounds unusual because the "tick" doesn't change much with engine RPM. If you can get the car up on some ramps or jack stands and have a good look around under there. Also double check the fuel lines and anything coming out of the rear of the centre tunnel under the car. Is it possible the tick was always there and the off road excursion dislodged something that was covering the ...

I cut spacers out of stainless steel pipe. It wasn't bad assembling them with the engine out on the stand, but it is difficult to bolt on the exhaust with the engine installed. I think it would be better to use the shorter exhaust studs than spacers, but it can be difficult to remove the old exhaust studs.
