Actually for a grieving rat, I try to do more things out of the ordinary. You see how much they charge around a newly decorated cage, it lifts their spirits, I find that a change of scenery/routine helps a sad rat as well. Since her little chirping sessions are short and not often, and there's no other symptoms, just keep an eye out for a URI. So sad when favorite cagemates pass.

Thanks guys. I like to think she is in a better place right now. Some of these posts helped me make that awful decision.. I looked at her little ratty face and knew it was time, and it was only fair to her. I still love her and she showed me how to be a better person, I think all animals do.

I was thinking it would be worthwhile if I were to trade several with another breeder... maybe sometime in the future. I knew it would be expensive, lol, but I hope to make it a project for the future.

I just saw a post on Nashville craigslist for a rat breeder in Knoxville who has babies available. First of all breeders and people selling animals aren't even supposed to post there. It's only for people offering pets for adoption. I only ever post my rescues there. Second she goes on and on in the post about how she has great show quality dumbos and she's a responsible breeder but she has one litter resulting from breeding a...

exactly. i miss my nibbler, but i knew it was right. may i share? in the end, we were feeding her by hand every day. she wasn't eating on her own, which is the ultimate sign that an animal is ready to go. when she was PTS, she wouldn't close her lil eyes. she looked at me the whole time, with her lil happy peaceful look she always gave me when we played. it was like she was watching to make sure I was okay. she was my best friend her...

Alrighty! Well, they are now eating lab blocks on their own =] I haven't seen them drink yet, but I was out of town for the weekend. They're still nursing a bit though. After giving mommy lots of extra food and nutrients, she did seem to kick in with help from the KMR. She's pretty young, so that probably had something to do with it also. She's so sweet though! At first she tried attacking me for feeding her [because of the...

I've had my rat Bella for a little over two years now, and for the past couple of months she's had chronic respiratory disease . She got it from another rat she was with for a while, and when I took her to the vet, he diagnosed her with pneumonia and gave me antibiotics. It turned out that we couldn't get rid of it, so she is permanantly on a dose of antibiotics and breathing medication each ...

Hey, im new to this forum- anyway, ive been really concerned about my rat Bella. 2 days ago her older cage mate passed whom she knew all her life, Coconut..and since her passing Bella has been chirping vigorously for a few seconds at a time a few times a day, and staying huddled in a corner more than usual. she just looks... sad. (however she is active and alert when stimulated.).. i am worried ...

Can it be done? At what age? Simply in a kitten carrier or something? How do I find out more about shipping costs and everything needed (I'm assuming a vet's clean bill of health) and what about shipping to Canada? Is there quarantine for shipping to Canada? As a side note, I just put a bunch of pictures of my rats and mice into albums in my account. Check 'em out if you want.

Okay, so I have a pretty desperate situation here. As you probably know, My little Bella had 10 babies . Well someone who took one of Bella's sisters contacted me Friday and told me they had 7 babies of their own from Bella's sister. Today, they called me again and told me that there is only 5 and a half babies... 5, plus a half eaten dead one Ew. She freaked out and brought the babies and ...

I'm not at all sure I am ready for this litter Gretel is about to have. I think maybe it's gonna be a doozie! Gretel is going through all the pregnancy changes everyone else does but even more and even faster. She is just now 2 weeks pregnant today. And she is huge! None of my other rats looked this obvious until 4-5 days before they popped. She is eating and drinking left and right! She's ...

So the breeder I got my Budders from wants to breed her with one of his males. He offered to let me keep one or two babies depending on how many she would have and what sex they'd be. I'm not sure if I want to put her through that I know it's very stressful. Also it seems a little like prostituting! I mean I loan her to some boy ratty who has his way with her.. I really don't know if I feel ...
