low range malfunction
Published (2009-12-03 20:00:00)
there is a little pin that hold s the transfer lever on in place, If this is loose or has moved it jams and does not let the shifter rotate enough to go in to low range. Sometimes it can happen when in low range and you can't get it out of low range no that is a pain just ask me.

Changing CV Joints

Pongos right. You can do it that way, though I don't find it much quicker, but for a first time I would do it the conventional way. Let's you see how it all fits together and gives you the opportunity to inspect bearings and seals. And I agree with his comment about broken axles being worse than broken CVs. I don't normally carry a spare axle/CV but always have a couple at home. When you break a CV under load, as opposed to just...

Thanks again 270win. You have been a great help! And thanks for the offer to pick your brains when I need help! That drawing will come in handy. Have just been reading the Patrol manual and my old "Repco Engine Service Manual". It looks like the feeler gauge piston clearance test is done with the rings removed. It seems to be the test if you have not got micrometers to measure the pistons and bores accurately. The manual says...

Anyone have some spare rods?
Published (2009-12-02 20:00:00)
Nissan shared a lot of 4cyl and 6 cyl parts between each other so they are probably the same. You will also find this with the pistons, valves, bearings etc as well. The 'L' series petrol engines 4 and 6 have a lot of interchangeable parts as well. Johno.

We get retro-fit A/C jobs at least a few times a year. ( retro fit from old R12 type refrigerant to the new R134a refrigerant ). The basic's of the job involves fitting service valve adaptors as they are different for the new gas. Also adding a small amount ...

welcome to the forum, all sounds good, but as for air con, they did come out with it so getting some thing off here or the wreckers would be your best bet, i have a air con system sold pending payment for $200, big difference in price from 2 grand, for that price you could almost buy a gq with cold air con.

It'll be your clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder
Happened to me several times, as in
first the hose went on me, same feeling as you describe
second the clutch slave cylinder went, same feeling
third the master cylinder went, same again
THEN the clutch damper went, you guessed right, same again...

just like every thing you do, pull it all out on a big piece of card board or paper in order you pull it off, that way you know which way it goes when putting back together.
once my patrol is put back together with a new coat, cv will be one thing i am going to up grade (gq cv's)

Peter,
The L28 came out with the auto with the divorced transfer case. I believe that it was the same 3 speed auto that came in the Skyline and it was only LWB.
