Patrol vs Defender
Published (2009-12-02 12:11:00)
Hi mate! I've owned 3 LandRovers in my past (used to trial them in the UK). The last one was a 90" Defender. I loved them at the time as it was quite a social thing with the other owners. I used to have drama's with half shafts snapping with my first two but they were hammered offroad and had Rover V8's in them so you can't really blame the engineering. Funnily enough it was the Defender that put me off them in the...

Hansi, coming from the UK, I know plenty who have fallen in to the Landrover trap. The Defender (and its Series predecessors) is just one of those iconic vehicles as is the Classic Rangie. They spend a fortune on them and what Doug says is not untrue - although parts supply in the UK is plentiful, still expensive though ! Having owned a RR, I can tell you that the Patrol is a far better made thing - it just works. Still miss that perm 4x4 and...

My quote from just cars was $1200, covered all mods aswell. Market value was $12g for the ute and they would pay out $13g if it was a write off. Thats with $28g off accessories on the pollicy. So my reciepts for $28,000 were worth $1000 over a stock ute.

In SA it has to let 75% of ambient light thru??? Cant remember, I have the info flyer from Vehicle Standards SA around here somewhere. I dont like it too dark anyway, makes it easier to see out with lighter stuff and makes bugger all difference to in cab temps anyway.

We have a Nano old 2gb one and it holds enough music for car trips. we don't have a fancy ipod input into the stereo so we bought a cheap ipod to radio thing that plugs into the cigarette lighter. you then tune your radio into a freq and you go from there.

welllllllll a bloke on ol put a 6.6l duramax v8 td in his gu and it runs like 11 second quarters but cost alot of money so budget will play a big part in it. otherwise a chev v8 goes alright or even a chev v8 diesel but im not a big fan of that conversion imo. budget again is the only real hold back with a project. good luck

Many people sell adn get LWB.. Life is so much easier for family camping... Other option is a trailer to take your gear. but 1-2 times of the wife attempting to put baby in the back of a 2 door will be enough for her to burn it.

G'day Hansi, you might be better off looking at the Landrover Owners Forum: http://www.aulro.com/ There's probably a similar British one that would be a bit closer to home for you. I'm thinking of a Defender myself if Nissan don't get their act together.

G'day Barron and welcome to the forum. Sorry to read that you're not happy with the airbags. I can't offer you any advice as I am just thinking about doing this conversion myself; but to the rear end only at first (if I actually do go ahead). What pressure's have you been trying? One thing I've learnt in my research on this subject is that a set of bags that are supposed to give you ...

your just trying to hock off all your GQ stuff to people that dont have a GQ arnt you.......... exhaust manifolds from TB42 and TD42 are interchangeable. And if someone can confirm or deny that the exhaust manifold from a FORD 250 crossflow fits that would be good (i have been told it does but never actually seen it)
