Noise coming from the engine
Published (2009-11-27 18:25:00)
wow, there's definitely a tapping sound coming from it. I don't think it's coming from the inside of the engine, most likely it's coming from somewhere in front of it, like from a tensioner or something.

I had a v6 audi a4 (1999) before I had the 1.8t. I like the 1.8t more and have done more with it (the chip does about nothing to the gas mileage unless you push it-- more power=more fuel use on acceleration). The v6 i had was an automatic so one with a stick would probably be alot more fun. 1.8t+stick is awesome. I want to get the n2mb WOT box that makes it so you dont have to take your fooot off the gas while shifting (therefore no change in...

If it happens when you are engine braking... stop doing that you will ruin your engine. Otherwise I think the red line and the limiter are 2 differen't values.
Seriously if this is during engine braking what is wrong is you.

It's a 2003, so less than 8 years old. As long as you've changed the oil on schedule, using the correct VW 502 oil since you've had it , you may be able to get VW to replace your engine. Spend a little time searching here or Googleing for details, but these cars have an 8-year, unlimited mileage warranty extension covering these issues.

Chip first and foremost. (especially if its a 1.8t)
Than maybe an exhaust if you want the sound.
Wheels are always nice, Audi take-offs are a good compromise in price and looks.
Unless you like all the chrome a new grill helps with looks I think.

I remember doing a tranny swap on a BMW. Not worth it imo.
Do you really need the 4-motion?

Where are you located? That will help determine a local value. For $5k you should expect anywhere from 60k miles to 130k miles. I know it's a big range, but it depends on how good the car is. Major issues are sludge, timing belt, abs and coil pack failure. Buy a car with full maintenance records, regardless of mileage. If it's been cared for, it will last forever. Best advice is: buy a V6 ...

Depends on wheel size, offset, tire size and how many times you can ask the same question. Can you stop it? Best way to find out is to test it. You will not be able to go as low as someone one 17's, but you can go low, just stretch the tires, keep the offset higher than 35 and the wheels skinnier than 8.5".

you need to find a ko3s from longitudal mounted engine. the turbos from the transverse engines are different and wont fit without a custom manifold. search and you should find what you are looking for

these cars don't work with dump valves because of the design of the induction system.
this engine blows off the extra charge back into the intake after the maf, and if you just dump it to atmosphere you will end up with horrific maf and cel codes, rather than that horrific sound you wanted.
