Hi JeffeVerde, thanks for your response ! According to Google Maps ... Vegas to Pasadena is about 270 miles "only" and we don't plan to visit that much on that day. I am more concerned about the days within DV, since we're going to ride much more slowly and have several stops. Nicolas

[quote=chorpie;244687]Napa and Big Sur are quite a ways apart... If you like wine, Paso Robles has TONS of it Thanks for all the tips, is Paso Robles east on 46 ? can't see it on my map ! Not sure about Napa as it is in the other direction as to where we really want to go but if there is a winery or two else where it would be wrong not to go and sample some of it Thinking at the moment of SF to Big Basin to Santa Cruz then onto Big Sur...

Paso Robles straddles Hwy 101, but if you take Hwy 46W eastbound from Hwy 1 (its between Cambria and Morro Bay), there are wineries all along Hwy 46W until you hit Hwy 101. Most places are either no tasting fee or maybe $5 for tasting. I know the few places i went to in Napa were more like $20 for tasting.

Doh! That's what I get for trusting my girlfriend with a navigation question (she'd just driven out to Vegas from Azusa last weekend) Quote: Originally Posted by Devilsadvocate Hi JeffeVerde, thanks for your response ! Thanks for the quick replys. I've been on So. fork mtn. road from Mad river to hwy. 299 following forest service rd 1 all the way. If I understand both DirtyBird and Bosozoku correctly it is 8 miles of gravel on forest service rd 40 between So. fork mtn. road and Hymapom ? I think I'll strike Hymapom rd. from our planned route and substitute the tried and true hwy. 36 to 3 to get to Hayfork. I've been on several back roads...

Sounds like you want to spend most of your time on / along the coast. Not much for wine tasting along the coast ... However, South of Santa Cruz and East of Watsonville is the little town of Gilroy -- they have the "Uvas Valley" there (Watsonville Road runs down it) there are several wineries along the way there (My brother in law is starting his own, after growing grapes for the last 35 years and selling them -he's now...

Thanksgiving dinner in Monterey?
Published (2008-11-18 20:58:00)
If your open for non traditional "Thanksgiving" dinner and you like seafood The Bubba Gump Seafood Company puts out an unbelievable spread (the view is decent too). This ain't your run of the mill buffet by any means. I thought I saw A turkery or two while I was running around in a seafood frenzy. We live in southern Ca, and we'll be there-again !

Hi All , Planning on coming over from the Scottish Highlands for a week or so touring based around Napa, Big Sur etc. As my wife can only get time off in July that's looking like when we will be coming over. My question is this, is the week after 4th July far more popular with folks touring than later in July. I don't expect the roads to be quiet but if there is far more folks about for ...

Ok, this may not be an eligible question because I'm (gasp!) trucking my ZX-14 up to Monterey instead of riding it. The riding will take place the day before and after Thanksgiving, at Laguna Seca with Reg Pridmore's CLASS school. I know how to have fun those two days! Thanksgiving day I'll be all alone and lonely in Monterey . I suppose I'll be forced to perk myself up at one of the ...

A friend of mine is building her summer/retirement home in Powell, WY. It should be finished by next summer and we thought it would be fun to go visit her and make a road trip out of it. I'll be riding 2-up with Shannon so need to keep mileage/time in the saddle in mind and will want to have a day break here and there for sightseeing and resting up. We'll be credit card camping. Ride up - ...

Hi Folks, I'm a former Oakland resident who now lives in Minnesota, where riding is iffy from November thru March. I have to take vacation between Christmas and New Year's, and am thinking of flying out to CA, renting a bike, and riding. I know that some years it rains pretty hard in the bay area and Norcal that time of year. So I'm open to trying anyplace in the state. Any ...

I'm wondering if anyone here can offer any observations or pass along experiences regarding winter riding in the southeast. Florida, Louisiana, and up into Arkansas. I realize there could be a wide variety of weather possible, but I'm looking for what to expect, generally speaking. Being a SoCal boy, I of course pretty much have no clue as to what I might expect. I would think rain is ...

Hi all. I'm new here. Been riding for 30 years - a ZX-12R for the last 3. YESTERDAY, I bought a 2005 BMW LT because this year, I fulfill my childhood dream - drive to the Grand Canyon on a bike. My girlfriend will be in the queen seat. We're both 50 years old - that's why we're not going on the ZX-12R! We're planning on camping as much as possible but I won't be afraid to ...
