Romanian AK-47 WASR 10

You can easily convert it to accept standard AK mags. It requires a dremel, or similar grinding tool. There are 2 tabs inside the mag well that you will need to grind off. If you have a 30 round mag, or can order one, you can use it as a guide when grinding off the tabs. It's a 10 minute process at most. Greg

Thanks for the info! The only concern I have is screwing up the gun, of course. I'll take a look at it tonight.

Bore diameter, 5.45X39?
Published (2009-11-26 19:00:10)
OK, I came across a WASR 2 AK 74. By slugging the barrel I find a muzzle groove diameter of about 0.220 in. My mike may be reading 0.001 under. I pulled a couple of the 60 gr Wolf bullets and replaced them with some 55 gr 0.224 bullets. This should be interesting.

might build another AK47

i might build another AK47.. from a romanian kit, simple stamped build.. but i no longer have the tools i once did.. are there any sort of devices or apratti put together by regular AK builders that can press out barrels or rivets without me having to buy a 12 ton shop press im only going to use once?... i like an idea of a pipe clamp for pressing the barrel in... but what about removing it or pressing out rivets?

You should totally build yourself another AK! (why not?) Cheap tooling. (why on earth did you lose the good tooling??) Well... if you can get the sun, the moon and the stars lined up all just right you can press the barrel out with a flywheel puller. Otherwise, the BFH, a nickle and a rod/punch will beat the barrel out. Reinstalling the barrel can be done with threaded rod, from what I hear (I've never put that one to the test). I have...

You may want to go to a local Autozone they rent tools and they may have a 12 ton press to rent, or try a local machine shop to press out your barrel .

It's doable with a mallet, steel rod, pennies and vice. However there's a lot of labor involved to get the barrel to budge. The trick is not to mangle the front trunnion and breech face. Easy to do via that method. Rivets aren't bad. Cut the heads off with a dremel and use a punch and hammer to smack the stubs out. The rear rivets require a drill press and 5/32 drill bit to remove. If you ...

Sounds like Knob Creek back in October. There were one or two M-76's there for a ransom price, but other than that, mostly EBR stuff.

I have a short SKS rod here that I picked up a few months ago. It is 13" long. If it is the correct length, let me know. I hate it when "accessories" are separated from their rifles. Whether it be by accident or intentionally done. However, I have profited by the intentional separation of said parts & pieces when plundering through parts boxes at gunshops in regard to completing missing ...
