I think you need to find someplace else to work on your car. Water pump should be replaced when timing belt is done - you paid for labor twice. When timing belt is done is good opportunity to replace other belts - did they ask you? Go to sompleace like Sears - they test charging system for free - get a second opinion.

Rear disk brakes on a PT?
Published (2009-11-22 21:07:00)
I think the question I want to ask straight out is this: Can rear disc brakes be installed without also installing and using the ABS function? I can't think of any mechanical reason why not. Is there a PCM or BCM reason, if there was no ABS to begin with? I am just as likely to lock up front disc/rear drum as I am front/rear disc when neither have ABS.

Depending on where you live, if you have emissions, it won't pass cause you can't vent to the atmosphere. I had an inline filter on my GT. The intercooler takes care of those hot gases anyways, but the filter does look full race. __________________ \'05 Stone White SRT4 \'04 Graphite PT Automatic

Need performance questions...
Published (2009-11-22 14:46:00)
I know nothing of getting performance specifically out of a PT Cruiser... but there are basics you can take into account. 1. Stock airflow is usually overly restricted due to noise concerns and fuel economy concerns. From what I've been reading, this doesn't seem the case on the PT Cruiser, but generally cold-air intake, headers and exhaust take care of this. Unless there are serious flaws with a model, spark (aka plugs/wires/coils)...

Well it sure sounds like everything was done properly and checked over for anything wrong but lets face it; if everything was perfect it wouldn't act like it does. I know you double checked but from what I've read and heard from my mechanic, the hardest part (besides getting to the area to work) is getting it aligned properly and numerous do-it-yourself mechanics and even a few that took it in to have the timing belt done have come...

Fiddler, welcome to the Forum!! 1. I don't remember. 2. I bought and installed them because of all of the positive info on this and other Forums. 3. If you change, do both plugs & wires, set at .040 gap, use dialectic grease and anti seize when installing. __________________ 2008 Silver Steel Metallic, Touring, NA, Sirius; Chromed door handles; lower grille; fog light surrounds; chrome front & rear bumpers strips; Airaid...

To my knowledge, there is no 5/16-20...so it is probably a M8 metric. Unfortunately, 5/16 is a bit smaller than 8mm so re-tapping for 5/16 is out. If you can't clean up the remaining threads (if any), the next size up is M10. You may want to consider the heli-coil route so that all the screws will be 8mm. There is not a lot of extra material on the flange so be ...

This is a test mod, so no one go copying this just yet. Let me run this for a month or so to make sure there are no bugs in it. This is a $15 mod, cheap and easy. The intent is to remove the oil and gases that are being exhausted into the airbox and intake from the valve cover. So I'm replacing the "make-up air" circuit currently installed, in hopes to extend the life of ...

Do a search and you'll find an oil filter study done a few years back where a fellow did what you did and cut open oil filters - a lot of them - there was quite a variation in construction. __________________ '05 Limited Turbo Lite, (Silver, of course)4-wheel ABS, Sunroof, Spoiler. The timing belt was changed in July and the water pump in October. I never had the noise until they changed the water pump. they only other work that has been done is replacing the torque struts, top and bottom. Could it be a loose belt and if so, is that something I can easily fix. Also, I really don't want to buy a $200.00 alternator and pay to have it replaced ...

Hi all savvy PT'erz! I had to replace our Oil pressure sending unit/switch this weekend because it was causing an oil leak. I just wanted to give everyone some tips.... I'm new here... and it's my gf's car I'm fixing (she loves her PT Cruiser). So let me explain what happened and what I've done... then hopefully someone here can help me out with some advice: Her 2001 Cruiser (2.4L NA) had 104,000 miles when the timing belt broke while she was on the highway going about 70mph. After some BS pricing ($1500 just to replace the belt), I decided to fix it myself...

This is my first PT also. Really like it and mine is running great but some recurring posts here have me concerned about auto trans, sensors, electrical gremlins, exploding taillights, cheap bushings. Shame on Chrysler. I've already read a number of posts that say 340 is the cam sensor but sometimes the crank sensor - and even some wiring connectors to the sensors...

Yes, smaller pulley does help a bit - alernator runs slower, so if you idle a lot and take short trips, maybe not a great idea.... Another thing is to drop the oil pan, and take off the chain that drives the countershafts - idle will be a bit rougher, but it adds HP. Those who've done it say idle hardly changes in roughness.

Welcome. The rule of thumb for resetting anything with the computer is to lift the negative connector off the battery for 10 min or so... I haven't heard of anything like what you're referring to. Only over-current protection I know of in a PT are fuses....

Welcome. I suspect it's because when they plug in, they don't get anything. I don't think it's a fuse, or else your car would run like crap - I suspect wiring - did you see where they were plugging in under dash? Lay on you back and follow the wiring and look for where there may be a problem... Sounds nasty...

WOW! I can hear my dad swearing from the grave "those gdamn engineers! they never work on anything they design!!" What a PITA! No wonder Saturn went chain on their DOHC. Thanx for the detailed write-up! PS: with so many belts breaking right at 100k, and the owners manual maintenance schedule calling for changing at 102k, I'm going to do mine shortly after 75k.
