Yes but that 70% is of the £5Bn costs for SARH which includes profits for the bidder whereas at the moment the costs of running the SAR flts are comparatively low

Hi Shawn Well you are right of course - and what is better than falling from a great height with no rotor is to follow the flight manual when it says Land Immediately, even if you don't like the look of the sea. Ditching under control in a wild sea is moderately survivable, falling with no rotor is not! But then again if the pilots thought that in reality they had 30 mins and the Land Immediately was just some certification arse...

Night landings, off heliport.
Published (2009-11-29 10:36:00)
Art E, Is this purely a HEMS/Police query, or a general night landing issue? Australia has many 24 hour HEMS & Police operations, generally single pilot with crewman, all of which would carry out night landings with nitesun with or without NVG on a regular basis into unprepared sites. Many different compliance requirements for the choice of sites, but a trained and professional crew is quite capable of carrying out such an evolution.

In normal missions, all people on board are well trained-because they have to go through lots of training.... As far as i know, everybody who is going to work on a rig in the sea has to pass underwater egress training-or is this not an international standard? Before each flight, we have briefed all passengers telling them exactly what to do in an emergency situation.... Luckily, i never had to try if all emergency maneuvers would have worked...

902 We seem to have a different language. Which part of 'know' and 'allegation' suggests a decision on my part on the guilt or otherwise of anyone? You seem to have a preinstalled axe to grind.

(fuel leak, is about the only one I can) How do suggest we co-ordinate the evacuation of 19 guys, with no crewmen in the back on intercom? Shouting "brace, brace, brace" over the PA is one thing, attempting a lengthy discourse on how we'd like "you all to jump out, in an orderly...

Night landings, off heliport.
Published (2009-11-28 17:37:00)
I fly a 206 for a small company here in the U.S. Only has the standard miserable landing lights, and one extra, fixed spotlight under the fuselage which is aimed downward almost vertically. We routinely go to certain of our sites at night. Of course, none we haven't been to in the daytime. No big deal if you're familiar with the site and you know what you're doing. (It's that last bit that gives me trouble sometimes.) HOGE...

Princess Pushy, You seem to be very well informed and I am wondering whether you can confirm or deny another rumour that I've heard. That one of the Doctor trustees took his family on holiday to Wales in one of the charity's fast response cars, while his own car was being serviced.

Yeah in many ways .........
In the east richness comes in many different varieties not just those so highly valued in the western hemisphere.
Never mind!
So if a company was to make an investment in machines and manpower and needed to spend a little under 90 mill USD on 5 helicopters which craft would Albatross and Doc tend the company towards? And for what reasons? Is the type ...

When i started in the 212, i had the same problem....
Flying the 204 or 205 normally, i have always used the graphs in the checklist to recheck the calculated weight against hoverpower..
Unfortunately, there is no such graph for the 212.....if you will find one, let me know....
We came out to write down different weights and OAT´s for each ship-just to have one value to check.....

Yes. It's called concrete, grass, dirt, bitumen, or some such.

Thanks. I thought it might have been this aircraft but on closer inspection it is not. Incidentally why the white nose? Is it to keep the avionics cooler? If so why not ose it elsewhere in hot climates?

Once the blades were on, we were scheduled to start ferrying passengers to Dumont D'Urville. Which would have been fine, except that my fuel control cable froze, and in trying to free it, the starter switch assembly fractured in the cold We had a very capable engineer who managed to get the switch repaired, so we only lost an hour or two
Then the first flights over the coast and...

My vote would be, use the time available to get the aircraft to a point
where a safe landing can be made (if onshore) or a ditching is survivable
(well, as survivable as it can be), offshore.

i hardly think its appropriate to give out information on the Australian crew.
on a subject from the last page about the fuels tanks taking the life rafts with them. the fuel tanks will, and i believe in this case did happen, break away from the aircraft. the life raft compartment is not part of that break away section. With regard to the need for better floatation devices? well, i ...

My understanding is that this matter was resolved by the IPT some time ago
and the aircraft will be as the same colour scheme as the MCA aircraft are
at present.

Yes me too, have written to the MP concerned and requested clarification as to which incident the Government are referring. I could well understand a delay in the AAIB reporting on the fatal incident, but another 6 months at least for the ETAP incident regarding CFIT(W) to discuss the matter with the Manufacturer seems a long time to me.
I will post any reply I receive from the MP such that the...
