Yes you are working as a pilot or yes you are working? It doesn't really matter, either way, you are entitled to your opinion. This made me happy - Ryanair named the worst family brand: Ryanair named worst 'family brand' - Telegraph

db, Are the numbers stated before or after taxes? And is this just the summer months or on average per month over a year? In other words, if it's after taxes and on average it is a great salary indeed. If it is before and average it would probably leave him with nearly 3k a month, which is great too. But if it's true that Brookfield people fly very very little over the winter months and the numbers stated are before taxes it is not...

FANS, I agree. As they say, no graph is one directional; however it seems in this case - in terms of employment rights, pay, futures, T&C's etc... - the lowco route into the career for a newbie, the graph seems one directional at present. However, in the true sense of my original statement, if the flexi/contract deal is the way into the industry for the next few years, the model will surely have to change to force the graph...

Its even worse in the UK than OZ and you would need your JAR licence to stand a chance or join the extremely long queue of very experienced pilots looking for work.

Yeah I do understand... But the economy has it ups and downs and the recover might be near. That's probably why I will go for the PPL and then time will tell what's best. The amount to pay for ATPL is big but that wouldn't be a problem if I could do it while working... But I think I will save myself from these debts bonds and enjoy some private flying doing hours, adding ratings, etc... while balancing what I win and what I...

Thank you so much for all your help and advice. I was thinking about a instructors rating however think I would stumble across the same problems if finding a job. I was thinking of heading down to Africa to get some experience. I am not looking to go straight into an airline but wouldn't mind if I were given it on a plate. I think I may head down to Africa in January for a few months. If anybody has any contacts down there, it would be...

Hi,
I've also applied for the sponsorship offered by flybe with Cabair .
I believe we will find out early next week if we have passed phase 1 - the application. I've been looking for a thread that may contain some more information on the different phases, I haven't found anything up to now.
All I can say about phase 2 is what it states in the prospectus- "Complete two computer-based ...

Would it be worth my time going overseas for a year or so, come back and get hard into it?
The answer is of course!
An experience abroad, is allways a valuable experience.
But I would add, why hold on and spend the big bunch of money all at once, while you could do it all at the same time, and spread the money wisely and slowly...

Dear Peers,
As some of you maybe aware from my diaries that i have recently completed my JAA CPL/ME/IR/MCC. I have come to a point where i have sent out over 1500 cover letters and CV's. And only had at best a 100 replies saying what i had expected "Thanks but not recruiting" or " not enough experience". ...

It is not worth it, and noone will hire you! The time for 250hr newbies to

Yeah I recently applied to Proflight Zambia. At least they were kind enough to reply that I need at least 1000hrs to do anykind of flyingjob down there.
"All candidates have to have a minimum of 1000 hours total time due to Zambian DCA requirements."
It seems that most operators in Africa now require more than 500hrs even for small SE prop safari operations. This will basically cut out all ...

Great story.
But now that there is a financial crisis and the aviation industy has taken huge hit. I was wandering if you could continue your story of your present situation....... ie are you lucky enough to keep your job, etc while many of us around you have fallen. As your efforts in writing this thread are widely appreciated it would be great to hear about further developments...
