Too much swapping things about, put back to the original configuration then put the wires back in the CORRECT places, I suspect you have a connector either misplaced or misplugged.

AGP X8 Should I be pleased?

This has been a really good computer, but was one of the last to have the ribbon cable to the drives. With the following, I'm wondering if it's worth carrying on with it. I have concluded that the graphics card in my HP is a poor relation of the FX 5200 that it reports. However, I see from the HP site that it sports a fading but quite quick AGP X8 But, I also see that the computer only offers 1gig. Can this be true if I sling the old...

Wireless phones question

Beagle, As I understand you, you have two physically separate phones (not a common base station with 2 remotes), so that is a different scenario to ChristiaanJ. A single DECT phone cannot ( AFAIK ) support multiple handsets both transmitting and receiving concurrently, although simultaneous receiving is possible (as ChristiaanJ mentions). I think it's analagous to VHF radio comms - only one station can transmit, but anyone in range can...

Quote: Given the facts you proved, I would suspect either 1) the MBP has "lost" the driver for the wifi NIC, or 2) the wifi NIC has done a Norwegian Blue (shuffled off...). Saab - You are right. Airport just started working again! I am baffled by it all. Many thanks for your input.

Capot, Try doing a Google search for the name Quote: Антон StiXy Козлов and you will see it is a simple spam message. And no, it would be a good idea to not go to the site. I can't comment as to whether the site is likely to harbour malware, but there is probably a good chance it does.It would be a good idea to delete the message...

Sumdumguy, Sorry you're having problems. It might be worth opening Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and see what processes are running. I just cured a friend's slow iMac by finding that a PowerPC-based process was running (!). If you have had any Safari plugins, some of them are only 32bit. They shouldn't load in, but some might cause issues. The most popular is probably Safari Ad Block which will only run in 32bit in...

I have a sneaking suspicion the Facebook machine has been hacked. "My daughter" suddenly sent out a batch of advertising for some dodgy site - which is absolutely not her thing! She deleted them all and changed her password, but was not impressed.

Can this be true if I sling the old memory?
Yes, unfortunately. Max RAM is 1GB - it won't recognise modules larger than 512MB.
I don't quite understand your question about the graphics card. Are you saying that AGP 8X could be good enough but the particular card you have is crap? ...

There is always going to be a certain amount of network traffic. All sorts of network management packets flitting around the network, and the like. Also the task manager is not a good way of working out what is causing network traffic, as a task using a tiny fraction of CPU resource can cause a lot of network traffic.
Being Windows I suspect it is trawling the Microsoft website for Online ...

That seems strange - are you 100% sure of that?

You could stand on your head, or move to Australia!
Have you tried a reboot, or a system restore?
There is a CTRL + ALT + arrow key sequence which may work and which is probably what your son inadvertently did whilst playing. However I've tried that on mine, running XP, and it doesn't change anything, but I would suspect in your case that it will.
Failing that you may have to go ...

Seems like the 'obsolesence time bomb chip' has kicked in.
Give up now and save the frustration.
I had similiar, replaced every component twice over from other computers i knew had worked well in past.
No combination of power supply, ram, hard drive, motherboard or cpu would work.
Ended throwing the whole lot away and started a new.
Might be able to recover data from the hard drive....

I haven't really kept abreast of Win7 development since I went Mac. I do use windows every now and then, previously using Parallels, but now I have Leopard I use bootcamp.
I am happy using WinXP and will probably just leave it there but are there any advantages or disadvantages to using Win7 on a Mac, or no benefit?

Just take an image of the disk and copy it across as an ISO file.
Then mount it as a disk.
If you have an Internet search for disk images.
As far as the computer is concerned its an actual disk.
Some of the crappy software look for the disk to be mount on D: drive.
here are some links to get you started

If you just want to replace the pot, it's probably a B50k, around 2 euros.
Google would appear to be your friend, there are circuit diagrams and parts
lists out there.

Tarq - thanks for all that. Yes, Teatimer flagged it. Long story as to why, but I have been clearing no 2 son's desktop from a Virut infection and wanted to run a 'second opinion' on my machine after.
I'll stick without it for the time being, I think.

It's a ref to HDTV requirements which needs a resolution of 1024 vertical
pixels so instead of 1600*900 you need 1600*1024, unless you want to play
HD stuff it's irrelevant.

"Is there something in WinXP which won't allow two copies to live on the same machine, even if only one is on the boot drive?"
No
I've used Acronis Driveimage, HDClone, EASEUS Disk Copy and DriveImage XML all successfully.
Usually a bit of faffing around, but it beats a full reinstall.

Hi all,
I'm looking at getting an iPhone in the near future but one prerequisite is to be able to view PDF's. After having played with an iTouch (downloaded PDF viewer from iTunes) this seems a bit of a challenge....
I've watched a few youtube clips that have tips and tricks, along with a few web sites that have some info, but still nothing concrete.
Anyone have a definitive/SIMPLE!...
