Yes I understand Windows Media Player has it's issues but when I tried Quicktime, it didn't play well either. My system is a few years old (Athlon 2600 Barton core, Asus A7N8X-X motherboard, Windows XP, 512 Mb DDR pc2700 ram, Excalibur ATI Radeon 9250 video card) but I used to do a lot of encoding with it. At any rate, an off site backup is also important. All the backups in the world won't help if they are destroyed in a house fire.

I don't use the photo organizer but I can't see it moving all of your photos, and if it does I'm sure it would warn you. It likely just points to the location of the photos although it may create little thumbnails of each photo. As for learning to use Photoshop. If you learn best by experimenting than that's what you should do. Bring up a photo, save it with a new name like filename PS try ...

Have you tried using Windows Movie Maker (or similar software) to put them on a DVD, and seeing if that version is also out of sync? (try playing the DVD both in a DVD player and in the computer). I've made lots of videos on several Canon Powershot models and have never run into sync problems.

Depends on the camera manufacturer I suppose...but I know on Canons at least when you go to the format option in the menu it will show you the size of the card and the space used on the card.
