If all you are after is a standalone backup scanner, try Malwarebytes Antimalware. Excellent product, it is free and does not interfere with anything as it does not have any realtime protection.

Hey haapy, LOL, I just tried a few things before you posted TruckDriver's solutions solved the Smart Update issue. I also disabled NIS during SD install. Still my programs would not open with SD enabled. I dug around and realized I had the Behavior Guard plugin enabled from a long time ago. I disabled that along with the other additional plugins I did not need anymore. This solved all issues i had with other programs not opening. So...

Thanks so much for these tips! Something as simple as firewall access solved my problem with smart update. I posted here, http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6248 4 because smart update would not work at all. This solved that issue. So Thanks Again, Much Appreciated!

Hi Nikilet, Maybe an application has installed smitfraudfix.exe in your installer folder that you were not aware about. BitDefender internet security 2009 will not detect the file anymore because the file has been quarantined by Spyware Doctor. If you want us to check this out further, restore the file from Quarantine. Zip up this file and attach it with your next reply. We can then ...

Hi, First off the popup should not appear as often as it does. In my case it never pop's up unless I have disabled IntelliGuard and then when I re-enable IntelliGuard it will show that popup and it will ask if I want to run a scan. Other than that, I never see this popup. And I haven't seen anything like this from others. It looks as though the IntelliGuard status could be switching ...

Hi Old Ted, I could only recommend to download the updates on another PC and transfer the database to your PC. I can't see any other alternatives. Our signature database has increased due to all the malware that is out there and in order to protect against these infections, we need to continually update our database signatures.

Hi dingo44, Is this the latest version of SD or SDA? and latest version of Avast? What is your Operating system? And have you tried changing the kernel compatibility mode to see if this helps and what is it set to now? We'll give this a test once you provide some additional info.
