Audacity questions re: recording...
Published (2009-12-04 10:05:00)
Thanks glc for that article. I tried almost everything in the article before I was able to get it to work. The only issue, which I guess is a minor one is that I have to disable the speaker sound in the volume mixer for Audacity when recording and enable it for playback, otherwise there is a tremendous amount of feedback (noise). That article was much more helpful than the information on Audacity's website and I'm curious how come...

You're calling the device a "splitter" or a "switch". Just to make sure you are using the correct device, the correct name is a KVM switch (KVM = Keyboard Video Mouse). It makes no difference which pc is connected to which side of the kvm. You just need to be sure the mouse and keyboard have the correct connectors. Some kvm's are PS2 and some are USB. And note that some kvm's don't handle wireless...

whats wrong with nvidia drivers ?
Published (2009-11-30 01:59:00)
Not to side track this thread but I have always heard about Nvidias lousy 2D performance but I have always wondered what exactly is meant by this. I see no difference in 2D performance between my ATI and Nvidia cards sitting side by side. I did work on a PC recently that had an Nvidia chipset with onboard video and no matter whether it was through that or a video card colors were way over saturated. I can't imagine that would be normal...

well me too . but starting from 190.62 things weren't so well .. i looked at Guru3D and nvidia forums and the complains about 195.62 are a lots starting from missing and corrupted icons to display and instaling bugs . i dunno about ATI drivers i herd some things about them but nvidia used to do much better than this when it comes to drivers .. i hop its not the start of a technology decay for them .

What does the rest of the system look like? (PSU Brand & Model, CPU, motherboard, etc.) Do you spend more time doing 3d modeling or gaming? If you do lots of 3d modeling, you'll want a workstation card which is faster for 3d modeling, but slower at gaming, otherwise a normal desktop video card will give you better gaming performance and ok 3d modeling performance.

According to the specs on Newegg your monitor has a resolution of 1920x1200. That is slightly higher than 1080p resolution (1920x1080).
The question is whether or not the monitor will accept a 1080p signal from the PS3. It very well may but I don't know. I did a quick Google search and it returned promising results with people discussing using HD-DVD players outputing 1080p and working ...

The totally legal way is install DVD player software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. You don't have to USE the software, but it has to be installed to install the codecs that WMP needs.
Another option is to use VLC player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
This won't install the codecs, but the player will play DVD's.
