What do girl issues have to do with a fan controller? If you want advice (which you have been given but seem to keep ignoring) about your noisy fan, post in this thread. If you want other advice involving computers, post them in the appropriate forum here. If you want advice about girls, please go find a forum that deals with social issues. This is NOT one of them. You are giving me a distinct impression that you have not read and understood...

I doubt you will be able to afford a Core 2 Quad if you're budget is only $500 and you want to make the computer for gaming. For gaming, the video card makes the most difference in performance, however if you plan on using the computer for a good amount of time a quad core is a good option, something like the Athlon II X4 is a good option and cost around $100.

Here is a suggestion for a mobo that would work for you and it is stable ASUS P5KPL-AM SE LGA 775 Intel G31 Intel Motherboard I checked the Asus compatiblity page and it is compatible with the 805 and 830 which to me it means it is compatible with your processor D820 processor Asus does not test every single CPU in the line up. Here is an Intel motherboard that works with the D820 as well Intel BOXDG31PR LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel...

Well if the CPU is at 60C and the fan is at 1100 RPM, then something is not working. What size is the fan on the stock Intel HSF for a Q6600? If it's an 80 or a 90 it should spin up to like 2800-3000 under load.

It's highly likely that your motherboard and possibly other components were taken out when that power supply went.

Depending on the exact part number you need, you can get a replacement motherboard anywhere from $90 to $200.

That would depend on the motherboard you are using. All motherboards that support AM3 socket cpus don't necessarily support the same types of ram. What board are you using?

I would try cleaning and reapplying thermal grease to the heatsink first to see if that helps, before totally discarding it.

Heat and failing power supplies are the two main culprits for random shut downs.
But...how old is the mobo? Does it have any buldging caps?

Yes, as long as you put each matched pair into the correct slots. You will be best off if the new ram is both the same speed and CAS rating (timings) as the old pair.

I'd say you guessed right and a dieing power supply can take other components with it.
Pull out your warranty and find out what you have to do send the computer back.

No, emachimes are notorious for using very cheap power supplies with a tendency to blow and take out the motherboard and other componets with them. Do you get any display on the screen when you power up?

You'll want a fan controller to change the speed of the fan, something like this works and doesn't cost too much: http://www.newegg.com/Prod uct/Produc...-217-_-Prod uct
