That particular one is standard ATX pinout, but proprietary form factor. It's not "normal" size.

Acronis backup- then restore to...

Never could find the " expert " options using the Acronis program disk,,,, but I cloned the disk and used the partitoning tool to delete the 3 x 122 gig partitions, so I ended up with what I needed. That partitoning program is very slick and easy to iuse. Thanlks for the quick response GLC.

Power supply question
Published (2009-11-21 10:12:00)
The power supply on the article is not the same model as mine, mine is a CL-700B, it doesn't have those modular plugs, you can view the pictures I scanned from the box here http://www.twitpic.com/qd5te and http://www.twitpic.com/qd5qv But I am not going to upgrade this computer much, the most I will install is a Core2 Duo 2.2 or so, if I'm buying a video card at all, it will not be high end lilke the 8800 series from Nvidia, just...

How do you power CCFL tubes?
Published (2009-11-20 15:21:00)
I read that, but it's over my head. These tubes I have weren't from a laptop though. But the monitor I took them from should have inverters, correct? Maybe somehow I could get a hold of a CCFL inverter and hook it up to some kind of power supply. Don't know what kind though.

Got a new Belkin USB card today. Now it's missing the sound card........and on occasion I get the blue screen saying it must shut down and if this is the first time you have seen this message.......half the time the keyboard works and the other half it doesn't. Not sure if I should junk it yet or put a couple more bucks in it since it seems to run great when it runs.....LOL. Got the OS on it and it boots great. I just know my mom...

You probably need to start looking at something else, the tower you linked is out of stock,is a refurbished unit, don't see a price listed. But if all your looking for is a basic surfer, that would be OK.

Small Form Factor, Small Desktop, or Tower? "Clamshell" doesn't tell us anything.

I'd prefer an Asus to a Gigabyte, I'd question the use of a SSD at this time, and I'd let some of the dust clear with the HD5000's. I'd also make doubly sure the ram you choose is tested compatible - with Asus, that means on the QVL.
Being that we are in a transition period with both video cards and motherboards right now, why not wait just a bit longer - like around Xmas?

Sorry to inform you, but Coolmax power supplies are poor quality.
If you must use that vendor, return it for one of these:

It may or may not fit in the case. Electrically, it's compatible. It's the same width and height as the OEM but about 1/2 inch longer. Take a look inside the case and see if this is going to be an issue.

Off the top of my head I would guess the power supply is bad. How old is it and what brand is it?

Are you trying to install XP with a valid copy of the OS, or are you using the DELL restore CD

Do the clone job again, but this time use the expert options to set up the partitions correctly. Do the clone with the bootdisk, NOT in Windows.
