The difference in performance between the i7-860/P55 and i7-920/X58 is slight unless you do some serious tweaking. The P55 platform is more stable, the X58 is designed for tweakers and overclockers. You also don't need the Deluxe model of the motherboard, the standard P7P55D will do everything you need. Just trying to save you some money where you don't need to spend more. If you really must have X58, the most stable board is the...

Any thoughts on the ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 and the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, compared to my initial build?

New build components help

Thanks again everyone for your help. I have ordered all the components and am excitingly awaiting their delivery. There are plenty of videos online on how to put the components together, but not as many for what to do next. Do you all know of any good guides to starting up, commissioning and optimizing the PC once I have it assembled? Thanks

What settings are you running the game at? The GT240 is a decent video card but you won't be able to play the game at very high settings and use AA/AF.

First off Thank you for the input. I,m extremely green as if you haven't noticed. For now I was going to use the on board graghics, but if you think the HD4650 would be better then I might just go that way. Its mainly for streaming Netflicks and others. I may do some gaming, but not sure. Also will that work good with the Blu-ray?

They have to be partitioned and formatted before they will be "seen". You do that in Disk Management.
There's a sticky thread about this in the Drives forum, by the way - I'd like to ask you to take a bit of time and search for answers to your questions before asking them. You learn better that way. Thanks!

Welcome to PCMech.
I'm not up to date on my ATI/AMD so I'll let someone else handle that.
I would suggest switching to the Western Digital "Black" series.
I would also go with a SATA DVD Burner instead of IDE. You can also save some money with a Lite-On brand. Plextor is unnecessarily expensive.

1. I recommend an Asus P7P55D motherboard. Saves you $60 and it's a better board.

2. I recommend a WD Black hard drive. A 750gb is $80.

3. Don't use ECC server ram, get a 2x2gb kit of standard DDR3- 1333 or DDR3-1600 ram. Worth the extra 30 bucks and you get twice ...

From a linux perspective, there are a couple of concerns. First, the drivers for your onboard intel graphics are currently in a state of flux in linux. The entire driver model has been reworked and many people have reported various problems. For others, everything works fine. You can expect that situation to continue for some time. Also, you appear to have an interest in graphic design and intel...

you could try mwave http://www.mwave.com/mwave/index.asp? for your items and the build looks very good although you may want to change the burner to a liteon or lg. I can't help you on the cooler but i have read good things about it. I also assume you know the warranty on the cpu would be voided with the aftermarket cooler.

You are asking way to broad of a question.
1: what is your budget?
2: going to use linux or windows? (id go linux if q3 is a yes)
3: you doing a main core + front end(s)?
4: what is the tv's size? if it isn't bigger than 50" blu ray can wait.

You won't really need a 1GB 9800GT unless you have a big monitor such as 24"+ ( 1920x1080, 1920x1200, etc.) but if all your going to use the graphics card for is a 22" (1680x1050) and lower you can probably save $30 by going w/ the 512mb 9800GT. Either that or you could go with a 9800GTX+ for the same price as the 1GB 9800GT. <--(this is based for games) but a 512mb card would serve a higher ...

You can make yourself a decent computer for $700. It wont be a barn burner that can play Crysis at high settings but it will be good enough for most games and most everyday tasks.
Don't buy your parts at Fry's retail or Fry's.com. You will not get the lowest prices nor the best service if you have problems. Go with an online retailer like Newegg.
Don't go with SLI or Crossfire. ...
