You can't run 3 x 4870x2's in crossfire. You could use the 3rd one for a second monitor. Yes...it's a bit extreme. The scaling isn't great beyond 2 GPU's. I'm sure this will be apparent when AK has his Quadfire setup running and we can compare it to my single 4870x2.

I just recently bought myself a 8800 Ultra for less than £100!! It'll be for a mate upgrading from a 7800 GS+ tho, so I think he'll notice the difference

Why the 750i SLI motherboard? Bad choice IMO. Should of went with Intel chipsets... As 3DGuy said, no point in running SLI as a single 8800GTX will be fine. You could OC it as well even if you need some more performance.

You want overclocking prowess, you want a P35-based board. Or even P45. I cannot in good conscience recommend an nForce.

Thanks for the advice guys, I should have asked before ordering!!! The board has some really good reviews oc wise, I'll post pics of the build and benchies when I've clocked it. Once I have new screen, will it be worth it then? For the second 8800 I mean, bang for bucks vs 280gtx....

Yup, orderd a PNY 9800 GX2 a couple days ago. I see on my answering machine I got a call saying it'll be in tomorrow by 3pm! I'm excited! I let Chris twist my arm a bit haha. My rig is so behind. Why did I go with a 9800 GX2? Going to spend that much, why not a 4870 X2?! I know it's not the best... Well, that's because I'm getting the 9800 GX2 for $415.35 CAD after taxes. Should be $599.99 ...

My last experience with ATI was a pair of Radeon 3870's in Crossfire. I was left disappointed due to both driver and performance issues. With the launch of Nehalem I decided to upgrade the core of my system, so I purchased an Asus Radeon 4870x2 on eBay (brand new, $410, free 2nd day shipping). I just got the card installed in my system and my initial impression is "WOW." I loaded up a ...

RIP HD4850 No idea when and if Diamond will ever reply to my RMA request since ATI vendors' support sucks arse. Running on my classic 7800GT now though I really got to get something better with Far Cry 2 coming out next week... Contemplating getting a BFG 9800GT for $102 or a HIS HD4850 ICEQ4 for $215. I'm semi-leaning towards another HD4850 since if Diamond does RMA mine, I ...

Have the two of you overclocked your 4870x2's at all? Tonight is the first time I'm messing around with mine and I was wondering how well they did for you? Based on reviews of the cards, overclocking seemed somewhat limited. Most reviews moved from 750/3600 to around 790/3900. So far for memory frequencies my card does the following: 4.06Ghz - Stable 4.10Ghz - Game Artifact 4.20ghz -...

i just found something out. Far Cry 2 actually runs worse in SLI mode. on my 9800gx2 i disabled SLI and i got 2-5fps of boost. what do you know... Com'on Nvidia... get your act together and get it right. althou for "dead space" on the other hand gains about 10fps more in SLI mode. Fall Out 3 so far runs exactly the same with or without SLI. this is starting to get annoying... if i ...
