Christmas pudding is here already :-) Just need trifle mix, sage and onion stuffing mix and cranberry sauce. Anything just to make it seem more festive here, its just not the same.

Does anyone know if the crash in Dubai will effect developments in Egypt in any way or is Egypt self sufficient?

Im going to travel to Egypt during may for a couple of weeks with some friends and we intend to drive from cairo to hurgada (Yes I know its a 8 hour drive and a plane to El-Gouna is alot faster). So i was wondering to you need to get an international driving license or will a Ontario Canada G class license suffice?

Not sure about your Ontario License but my UK License is no problem at all; it actually takes about five and a half hours. Alternatives would be to fly Air Egypt to Hurghada or take the Coach which costs about 100 Egyption pounds or 11 GBP each way! Its a good road, generally straight but with a few bends in the area of Ain Sokna.

Well to be honest I wouldn't drive in Egypt unless I really had to,it's certainly not for the faint hearted.Once you get out of the towns it's ok,mostly all desert and quiet long roads. The likes of sekalla are frightening in a taxi let alone driving LOL.

Civilization is really coming quickly to Egypt now! The absence of a cinema was our biggest gripe, but that's been solved now, leaving our second biggest gripe that we can't find enough good books. Looks like that ones been solved as well! Do you know if the library is open to us paupers living in Hurghada, or just for you Gounans?
