rescuing a file from a bad drive
Published (2009-12-08 17:41:00)
Remove your old drive, either disable it in the BIOS, or unplug it while you install Windows on the new drive. It avoids any problems later if the Windows install decides to put any boot files on your old drive. Once you've installed on the new drive, reattach/enable your old drive, and change the boot order in your BIOS and it should be detected as secondary drive once your in Windows.

You can find similar devices in the UK, if you try googling. However, this particular duo-dock only has one eSATA port on the back. From the description on the web site "When utilizing eSATA interface, Port Multiplier feature is required on the host system’s eSATA controller for two hard disk drives to be seen at the same time. All USB supports Port Multiplier function". i.e. depending on your computers eSATA you...

Looking at your MB it wopuld seem you have both Intel ICH9R controller (6 ports) and jmicron controller (2 Ports). I would try connecting the drives to the ICH9R controller if they are not already connected there. Its a guess but I dont think the firmware update programm will find the drives if they connected to the jmircon controller, only the intel one. Set everything to ide and try that. For info the update ran fine on my P6T Deluxe MB with...

I think the WD is also 5400rpm. It's all down to personal choice really, nothing between the 2 since it's only for storage of media files.

If you don't want to use the RAID features of the card then just connect the drives and ignore the boot message, it'll work fine.

Setting aside items that are out of range even for those considering standard consumer SSD units, the drives based on Intel and Indilinx controllers are still pretty much neck and neck. Some benchmarks show Intel ahead, others Indilinx ahead, but in real world scenarios there's really not much in it. For the Intel controller you're basically talking about the Intel X25-M, though I believe one ...

Excellent, go for it. And be sure to let us know how you get on! Could you not of put this in the X25-M thread though? Edit; Oooh, I see it's for the 50nm drives too. I wonder if they've enabled TRIM on them?

I can't see prices coming down at all for another 6 months or so, when 3BPC and 4BPC MLC NAND starts to arrive, and can't see SSD's coming back down to their summer '09 prices for a year. Crucials won't be going back to near their launch prices even then, they launched them at a loss to establish their brand. Price changes should be proportionate to other brands now. Get the Intel BTW, TRIM...

How much space is left on the hard drive? You are ment to leave space left on the hard drive, as when you fill up the memory in the chips, after that, it starts to become "dirty memory". Use somthing called "whiper" that defrags the ssd etc.
