TBH if its a dell you'd prolly need a new case, PSU and motherboard to swap things over... its not that hard but the first time is a bit daunting. You can get a decent P45 or P43 board for £60-70 that would take the CPU to 3gig easy, case and psu would depend on what you wanted to spend but £20-30 for case and ~£40 on the PSU is to be expected - you may be able to transplant the PSU depending on the dell one - some have different...

Use http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...r_HD_5870.html to set clock speeds, this will disable powerplay, see if it still flickers, make sure you don't have any other OC software running when using GPU clock tool.

basicly if u run a dx11 app/game on a dx10/dx10.1 cards it'll just use the dx10.1 features, so basicly it's just running in dx10.1

The 4870 is alot faster than your current 8800GTX so it will be a nice upgrade.
Id recommend this cooler for the 8800GTX:

Tbh I think you know enough to choose the card yourself
You seem to be after a card for out and out performance for ~<£130, so your choice is between the 4890 and GTX 260.

Personally I'd sell them now whilst they are still worth something. Buy a 5850 and hold on to that till the next gen of cards come out.

The hardware works in a completely different way. Its not as simple as just saying make the drivers more efficient. The ATI cards use a shader setup that is potentially very powerful (very different to the one Nvidia uses), however is tied by how much games utilise or are forced to utilise the power. Peak vs Average throughput and all that.
Nvidia drivers aren't exactly that hot recently ...

Looks like its all about showing off the GPGPU functionality and little in the way of 3D.

Very nice!
If this is the case then that'll be one hefty gpu. It's understandable considering there are two 5870 cores that have been lowered clock wise, it's a good thing they've left headroom for some good o/cing.
I am looking forward to the benchies!
