Time to build a new machine?
Published (2009-11-28 20:52:00)
Hi PSU and case will be fine You can either go with that last build you did, very good, or for the AMD look at the first spec I did but sub in the quad core 955 for the dual core 550 and youre in the same ball park, both in terms of cost and performance. Upto you which system you'd prefer

BSOD help plz

You have used memtest86 to check all sticks of your ram? Try swapping out your graphics card if you can, or try stress testing it with a benchmark see if you can cause the BSOD. Have you checked event viewer for more info that might help?

The new build

For that price, I'd suggest getting an Intel i5 and this motherboard . The i5 is faster than the X4 965 at stock and overclocks much better too. Here is a performance comparison. If you want to get a big PSU, get this one - it is simply amazing . Also, you probably don't want an energy efficent (slow) hard disk as your primary. I would strongly suggest getting this one .

Why are my USB 2.0 connections...
Published (2009-11-28 18:26:00)
I'm fairly certain that esata is the same as sata, just with a shielded cable. As a result I don't see why drivers would be needed. If its the marvell ports causing issues, run an sata cable from the intel ports to a backplate for about £2. No idea if firewire is meant to be faster than usb 2 or not, as I use usb and esata exclusively.

What OS are you running and is the system still running on optimized defaults or have you introduced a clock since then?
EDIT: Sorry just noticed the XP SP3 in your original post - so my only question is is BIOS still operating on defaults?

Thats all that need to be done, once you receive your RMA number label up the box and send it to the supplied address, they only really want the actual object that faulty so if its either a motherboard or graphics card, just the product and none of the accessories, you could just wrap the original box in brown paper if its easier

looks good to me, sure you wanna spend so much money, on something that isnt that future proof??

The Corsair 400W. £37 at the moment. No other budget one I'd personally be willing to use since the pc p&c vanished a little while back.
Failing that look to Antec. Not a chance I'd buy a second hand psu from the bay for £30. It isn't saving money if/when it kills off your motherboard, cpu and graphics card.
I've put one machine together using the corsair, it's been running perfectly for...

Northbridge or Southbridge temps? They can get quite toasty on Nvidia chipsets.

Hi and welcome
Put this spec together for you, similar to above but uses new DDR3 (theres not much price difference) and included new HDD as this will be major weak point, trying to use old one, the case/psu combo is very good. You could carry the optical drive across but I included one so everything would be new and shiny

Hmm...
Well firstly there is no point in you trying to lower your in game graphics settings as that will not be the issue because the GTX285 has more than enough power to play these games on high...
Other than that, i would suggest downloading the latest drivers, checking your connections but as you have said you have downloaded all the latest drivers...
The only thing i can think of, is...
