Published (2009-11-07 20:15:00)
Thought I had mine stable at 1.35 vcore, 1.25 FSB/VTT at 3.825gig (passed any amount of time on OCCT and over night prime) but failed under 15 passes in IBT - upped the vcore and fsb slightly and its now fully 20 passes stable in IBT which is as stable as makes no difference. After 3.8gig tho it needs significantly higher amounts to scale up stable.

It's end of life, Intel are no longer making it. Prices inevitably going to rise. If you look at the 920 D0, it costs £210. Same price +/- a fiver as when I got mine several months back.
I think that's all it is I'm afraid. If you fancy a 775 quad, the cheap times are fast passing.

Hmm, maybe time for an upgrade! I remember having one of these back in the day and I remember them running really hot. If poss, could you stick some monster cooling on it and try and bump up the multiplier a bit and a dash of extra voltage.
However that's unlikely to make a real difference to your end- user experience. What's the time-frame on you getting a real replacement?

For 5850 crossfire you'd prolly be quite happy with the 965 - more so with a bit of overclocking... but personally I'd be looking for atleast 3.8gig or better yet 4gig on a Q9550, i5 or i7 setup to really get the best out of the system.

Looks to be just a higher clock speed:
i7 920 - 2.66Ghz
i7 930 - 2.88Ghz
hope they keep the D0 stepping. love my 920 atm!

It is very unlikely to be the CPU at fault, however it is possible. I'm not up with AMD chipsets and all that but does that chipset even support Phenom IIs?
Try clearing the CMOS of the motherboard with the jumper on the motherboard (see manual) as that should help with the new CPU. Remember to write down any custom settings before this though.
Also, is it overclocked? If so, drop it ...

Yeah, for quad enabed games you should see a nice increase, though it'd be such a shame not to overclock the quad to see a large performance gain for your money. Why not pick up a second hand freezer 7 pro or something cheap that'll do the job? You may as well if you're upgrading.

Not all X2s can unlock to X4s. If you got the X2 recently then theres a high chance that it will unlock, but if you got it a while back then the results could be random. It could be that you have a chip with two actual bad cores.

Thats about the most u want to be running it with, but you should be able to get that speed with less vcore if you tweak the voltages urself.
If u don't think u can do that then no worries, 1.4v is fine aslong as the heat is acceptable, u don't want it really going higher then that though.

You wouldn't. Your cpu is nicely overclocked. Save the money and buy somthing like a better gpu, and install windows 7 64bit to use your full 4gb's of memory.

In reality I think the e5200 will rape the q8200 in most applications at that clock, and you're unlikely to get the q8200 to budge from (IIRC) 2.3Ghz.
Just stick it in a HTPC, it's fine for general duties

If you look at the 'extreme tweakers' section in the bios it should say near the top how many MHz is running at. if it still says 2.66 then its not been overclocked. Thats if your bios is similar to mine ofcourse, my mobos is an Asus aswell.
