They should work fine. I've attached spare disks to my install while in RAID mode and they show up like you would expect. Worst case would be the partition table gets messed up, which you could recover from pretty easily. Unless, of course, you're planning to switch to RAID mode and keep your OS on one of the single drives. A guy just tried to do that and had to reinstall Windows to get it to work.

I had to end up reinstalling Windows to set up the RAID0/1, even though the OS is on my SSD. I'm just glad I got it working Here's my 80GB SSD vs 64GB RAID0 Thanks for the help.

Since most users are reading from the disk more than writing to it, I'd recommend going with two 80GB. I wish I had.. To my knowledge, intel hasn't released TRIM for their SSDs. I know they did, but it was pulled. Maybe it was re-released?

Is their a reason not to paint your internal hardrive?
I'm hopefully going to paint my computer case in the near future. I was thinking of painting both my hardrive and my DVD drive(not the bezel). Before I do this I wanted to know if it will damage my drives. Any tips would be helpful.

To my knowledge I don't think theres any adjustment in optical drives, just eject button. Pull it apart and make a laser pointer and buy a new drive.

SATA Cables
Is there a difference between SATA I and SATA II cable or is a SATA cable a SATA cable? I ask because I know have an WD EADS 1.5 which is SATA II. I also have a SATA cable that came with my Abit AV8 (onboard SATA I) and a Promise Technology SATA II TX2 card. On the cable I do not see any markings saying it is a ...

Ehh, I would have to imagine that even with a 5400RPM laptop drive, your network is the part that is slowing it down the most.
What Im saying is, it doesnt matter if you have a Corvette, if you can only drive it in a school zone (limit).
Good enough?

I do not know the answer to your first question, but as far as Win7, you do not need the cdkey during clean install. It will work for 30 days without.

I believe it depends on the controller. I'm fairly sure that the Perc 5/i that I use in my file server could do it without losing data. Basically, I build the array and specify that I'm recovering the data (no format) and then tell it which is the master hard drive to copy data from.
Can yours do it? Well, you didn't specify a RAID controller, so I have no idea.
If you are...
